Position Overview

The Director of Cloud Data Platforms and Architecture will lead architecture and platform modernization as one area.  This person will be outcome focused, with the mindset and skillset of delivery, execution and team building along with influencing, education and relationship building .  This leader will partner closely with Enterprise Architecture.  

Responsibilities include but not limited to:

  • Manages AWS cloud enabled data management and analytics/AI related tools and platforms, including championing tools selection; development and maintenance of selection framework; engagement with users and vendors for POC; and engagement with procurement for vendor contracts
  • Manages platforms and tools related onboarding and drive adoption, including interface with cloud platform teams for tools onboarding and adoption support
  • Analyze current data platform environments to detect critical deficiencies and provide recommendations to modernize platforms and tools that aligns with technology and industry trends
  • Lead, design and document an enterprise-wide technical data platform architecture based on business requirements and data and analytics strategies.
  • Advocate enterprise data and analytics architecture principles and the value proposition of architecture to technology and business partners.
  • Partner with security teams to deliver usable, secure and robust platforms and tools  for the organization
  • Establish best practices and formal methods for defining, designing and operationalizing platforms and tools (security, performance, manageability, flexibility, usability, resiliency, availability)
  • Manages tools operations teams and activities, including engagement with tools teams for operations support and maintenance and engagement with tools teams for product upgrades and releases planning and rollout.
  • Recruits, motivates, and develops diverse team of cloud data platform and tools related professionals, leaders, and managers to sustain a high-performing, strategically focused workforce within the AWS Cloud Data Platforms and Tools COE.
  • Operate as the COE leader and oversee day-to-day team operations in line with set policies and procedures while simultaneously providing feedback to leadership on COE roadmaps, goals, and performance.
  • Set the 2-3 year vision for data platform and tools, develop and sustain a rolling multi-year plan with respect to modernizing cloud/on-premises solutions that leverages latest trends and technologies
  • Accountable for the financial and human resources of the Cloud Data Platforms and Tools COE, including, but not limited to, budgeting and staffing of the function.


  • 10+ plus years in similar leadership roles with exposure to multiple and diverse architectures, Data Management and Analytics related tools and technologies,  technical configurations, technical platforms and AWS cloud environments
  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science or equivalent work experience
  • Industry standard certifications in areas of cloud architecture, AWS certified solutions architect and strong experience with AWS technology stack and with AWS Services such as S3, EMR, Redshift, RDS
  • Familiarity with adjacent architecture disciplines such as Data Architecture, BI Architecture and Enterprise Architecture
  • Strong knowledge of tools across other data management capabilities – Data Engineering, Data Governance, Data Quality, Metadata Management and Master Data Management
  • Familiarity with AI/ML tools to drive decisions on AI/ML tools selection and onboarding
  • Well versed in current and emerging technologies with ability to implement solutions that create value without putting business operations at risk
  • Experience developing and leading high-performing, diverse teams
  • Strong leadership skills, including the ability to create and maintain a positive culture and drive results through others.
  • Effective prioritization, including the ability to balance precision / accuracy and resources / timelines within the bigger picture.
  • Strong organization, attention to detail, and project management skills to ensure quality standards and deadlines are met
  • Collaborative, service, and consulting oriented style to add value and meet needs of business partners
  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, to explain processes and results to both finance and non-finance personnel
  • Strong work ethic and commitment to bringing projects and issues to closure
  • Demonstrated innovation, automation, and change leadership
  • Demonstrated leadership of business analysts / data management professions

    **This position will be in a hybrid working arrangement.**

    Physical job requirements:

  • Ability to utilize keyboard, mouse and computer for up to 8 hours per day
  • Ability to work at least 40 hours per week
  • Ability to utilize telephone for up to 8 hours per day
  • Ability to perform grasping tasks throughout the entire work day (examples: handwriting, grasping of equipment/machines, paper manipulation, sorting, folding, handling stacks of paper)
