We’re looking for a motivated Controls Technician to take ownership of the build, wiring, programming, and startup of custom automated manufacturing systems. This hands-on position blends mechanical and electrical fabrication with PLC programming, troubleshooting, and commissioning and electromechanical troubleshooting.
Ideal candidates are detail-oriented, technically skilled, and comfortable moving between shop-floor fabrication and high-level automation controls work. This is a great opportunity for someone who enjoys problem-solving, variety, and seeing projects through from concept to completion.
Primary Responsibilities
System Build & Integration

Assemble and wire automated equipment using prints, schematics, and engineering guidance.

Perform custom fabrication using both mechanical and electrical hand tools.

Integrate robotic, servo, pneumatic, and control components into complete systems.

Build control panels, route conduit, and terminate wiring to industrial standards.

Support equipment installation and commissioning at customer sites as needed.
Controls & Programming

Develop and modify control programs including PLCs, HMIs, VFDs, and servo drives.

Diagnose faults in electrical and automation systems and implement corrective actions.

Calibrate sensors, verify I/O, and ensure system functionality through testing.

Perform software updates, parameter tuning, and field adjustments during startup.
Team Collaboration

Work closely with engineering, project management, and production teams to ensure smooth system build and delivery.

Communicate effectively with customers and internal staff regarding technical issues and project progress.

Maintain accurate documentation, test results, and change logs.
Shop Organization & Safety

Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment.
-
Support general facility upkeep and follow company safety policies at all times.
Qualifications
Experience
-
Hands-on experience in industrial maintenance, automation, or control systems.

Familiarity with PLCs, HMIs, VFDs, and servo systems (Allen-Bradley, Siemens, or similar).
- Vision systems experience is a plus. IE Keyence, Cognex, Fanuc IRV

Ability to read and interpret electrical drawings and mechanical blueprints.

Experience with robotic integration or electromechanical assembly a plus.
Skills
-
Strong troubleshooting ability in both hardware and software environments.

Solid understanding of electrical, pneumatic, and mechanical systems.

Competent computer skills and comfort with diagnostic tools and programming software.

Physically able to lift 50+ lbs and perform tasks requiring bending and standing.

Must have valid driver’s license and be able to travel domestically (up to ~30%).

Must meet background and drug screening requirements.
Reporting
-
Reports to the Controls Manager or Engineering Lead.

May receive direction from project managers and senior engineers as projects require.
Work Conditions

Full-time, on-site role in a modern automation and fabrication facility.

Field travel to customer locations required for installation and commissioning (typically up to 30%).
