Job Description

The Aftermarket & Sustainability Manager is a strategic and operational leader responsible for maximizing the value of post-retail and post-outlet donated goods at Goodwill Central Texas (GCT). This individual oversees all aspects of reverse logistics and aftermarket sales, managing the downstream flow of commodities (such as baled textiles, shoes, plastics, and metals) and leads sustainability efforts to reduce waste, increase landfill diversion, and enhance GCT’s environmental impact.

As part of GCT’s mission to transform lives through work, this role connects operational innovation with social responsibility. The ideal candidate is a results-driven problem solver with a strong understanding of domestic and international secondary markets and sustainability best practices-particularly those relevant to donated household goods. This position will build and manage strategic partnerships, influence operational change, and amplify GCT’s role as a sustainability leader within the Goodwill network and the broader Austin community.

Role and Responsibilities

  • Lead all aspects of reverse logistics and aftermarket operations, including the flow of post-retail materials through partnerships with DGR, brokers, and direct buyers.
  • Develop and manage a diverse pipeline of domestic and international buyers; negotiate contracts and optimize pricing strategies.
  • Monitor market trends and sales performance to adjust strategies in real-time, ensuring maximum return and consistent throughput.
  • Design and implement a comprehensive sustainability strategy to reduce waste and increase reuse, recycling, and landfill diversion across GCT’s donated goods stream.
  • Pilot and scale innovative recovery or repurposing solutions to improve landfill diversion rates and generate additional revenue.
  • Conduct regular audits of waste streams, labeling, and documentation processes to identify inefficiencies and standardize materials handling.
  • Maintain accurate inventories of product levels across all DGR locations to support reverse logistics forecasting and sales planning.
  • Ensure timely and accurate submission of aftermarket and sustainability data to Goodwill Industries International; analyze performance relative to national benchmarks.
  • Maintain compliance with all regulatory requirements related to waste, recycling, transport, and reporting.
  • Proactively resolve vendor disputes through documentation, audits, and ethical negotiation practices.
  • Serve as GCT’s subject matter expert on sustainability, providing guidance to operational teams on best practices in materials handling.
  • Collaborate with Marketing, Development, Education, and other departments to promote GCT’s environmental leadership within the community and Goodwill network.
  • Champion innovation and creative problem solving within Post-Retail and Logistics teams to improve reverse logistics efficiency, landfill diversion, and revenue opportunities.

Supervisory Responsibility

This role does not have direct reports but may lead cross-functional project teams or temporary assignments related to sustainability initiatives.

Required Skills & Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Environmental Studies, Sustainability, Supply Chain, or a related field; equivalent work experience may substitute.
  • Minimum 3–5 years of experience in aftermarket sales, commodity trading, recycling, or sustainability.
  • Knowledge of the secondhand goods and donation-based resale ecosystems preferred.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, including Excel, PowerPoint, and familiarity with D365 or similar ERP systems.
  • Strong analytical and critical thinking skills; demonstrated ability to interpret financial and operational data.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills; bilingual English/Spanish a plus.
  • Valid Texas Driver License; ability to travel locally to outlet centers, vendors, and community partners.
  • Experience working with or advocating for marginalized communities is highly valued.
  • Physical Requirements
  • Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Ability to lift 50 lbs as needed and walk warehouse floors and outdoor lots.
  • Frequent standing, walking, bending, stooping, or crouching in operational areas.
  • Must be able to safely navigate GCT outlet and post-retail facilities.
