Overview:

Securian’s Employee Benefits Solutions (EBS) market is investing in the business to modernize our approach to data exchange by significantly expanding our Public API deployment. These public APIs will be deployed with key partners within our ecosystem (e.g. enrollment platforms, administrators, brokers, employers) in order to enable accelerated growth and new solutions enabled by these capabilities.  In this role, you’ll take the lead in shaping our go-to-market strategy, leading conversations with our external partners, alongside our enrollment and technology team members. 

Internally you’ll be closely partnered with the Technical Product Owner for our dedicated API team , as well as enrollment platform relationship managers, and EBS leadership.  You’ll lead the development of business cases to support the process changes and enhancements to the way we deliver benefits, as well as the prioritization and sequencing of which partners and in what order.

Responsibilities include but not limited to:

  • Own Securian’s partner data exchange business strategy, informed by our business strategy, enterprise technology direction, partner preferences and market trends. Ensure that our strategy can be articulated to all audiences, internal and external, in a way that ties our priorities and strategies to their desired outcomes, including influencing partner roadmaps creating shared success.
  • Collaborate with the Technical Product Owner and Technology Owner for Partner Data Exchange (PDX) to develop and maintain the roadmap for new capabilities, new partners, enhancements and maintenance for the external APIs.  The roadmap will address the needs of employers, employees and brokers across all aspects of their journey with Securian’s employee benefits offerings.
  • Maintain knowledge of technical trends related to data exchange evolving within the market (e.g. standards groups), as well as Securian’s technical environment and roadmap to advocate for long-term relevancy, stability, flexibility, and scalability of our offerings.
  • Develop and cultivate intentional feedback loops and KPIs which provide transparency and insights into the impact of APIs on employer group sales, retention and plan-level enrollment, as well as the overall platform adoption and coverage of our deployed Public APIs.
  • Maintain marketing materials, RFP responses and implementation guides supporting the adoption and implementation of the Public APIs.

    Qualifications:

  • 5+ years of employee benefits experience through any combination of roles at carriers, brokerages, consultants, or enrollment firms/technology platforms.
  • Successful track record of bringing a new technical product or solution to market, from roadmap development, through launch and stable state execution.
  • Prior experience leading or owning one or more API integrations in either a business or technical capacity.
  • Proven ability to establish and maintain relationships with management and technical contacts at external partners yielding a high level of satisfaction.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Ability to effectively share information with varying audiences and respond appropriately.
  • Demonstrated independence, as well as the ability to work in a team environment to solve problems in a timely and sustainable manner.

    Preferred Qualifications:

  • 2 years’ experience with Group Life, Accident, Critical Illness and/or hospital indemnity insurance.
  • Period experience working with technical product teams using agile methods and practices.
  • Knowledge of LIMRA’s LDEx Standards
  • Comfortable with technical architecture discussions including custom applications, COTS packages, and RESTful API.

    Physical Job Requirements:  

  • Ability to travel on short-notice, up to 30%, and satisfy common visitor polices at large employers.  
  • Ability to utilize keyboard, mouse and computer for up to 8 hours per day.
  • Ability to work at least 40 hours per week.
  • Ability to utilize telephone for up to 8 hours per day.
  • Ability to perform grasping tasks throughout the entire work day (examples: handwriting, grasping of equipment/machines, paper manipulation, sorting, folding, handling stacks of paper).
