Accepting Applicants for Proposal Submission

Compass Government Solutions is seeking an Ultrasound Technologist to provide services at the Alexander T. Augusta Military Medical Center at Fort Belvoir, Virginia.

This opportunity is part of a proposal effort. We are currently accepting applications from experienced candidates to be considered if the contract is awarded.

Schedule:
8 hour duty day between 6 AM and 7 PM. Hiring for all shifts.

Job Duties:

  • Perform radiation therapy service to patients of all ages upon referral. Serve as a medical team member on an assigned shift. Responsible for direct patient care and the technical supervision of paraprofessional contract staff members. Coordinates with intra and inter disciplinary medical team members in total patient care activities. The therapists must be able to initiate emergency measures and notify physicians when necessary.
  • Independently performs routine radiation therapy procedures including CT simulations. Review simulation and weekly port verification for accuracy and technical acceptability. Receives patients, explains method of procedure, positions patients and transfers them in accordance with procedures and department policy. Selects and sets the technical factors, sets up and adjusts accessory equipment required and make dose administration necessary for the requested treatment in accordance with the department policy. Reports malfunctioning equipment to chief therapist and physics department. Will help lift/move patients, when necessary, with proper patient moving techniques. Will record and bill in ARIA and MHS-Genesis the proper patient simulation and treatment billing codes.
  • Performs other clerical functions necessary to process patient records through the Radiation Oncology Service. Performs block fabrications for electrons and photons treatments as needed.
  • Contractor performs procedures as ordered to assure that adequate safeguards are maintained and recognize changes in equipment functions or procedures which might result in increased exposure.
  • Recommend methods to prevent unsafe exposure. Continually monitors patient’s conditions (side effects) for potential medical or life threatening crisis. Accurately perform the daily warm up and QA on treatment machines and CT Simulator.
  • Maintains professional competency involving clinical skills and knowledge so that they have accrued at least twelve (12) continuing education units within the last year through participation in professional radiation therapy technology organizations self- directed journal reading and attendance in service and continuing education program. Completes department forms and reports accurately and promptly when appropriate.
  • Comply with the Department of Radiology administration policies and Radiation Oncology Service Standard Operating Procedures which will be available for review in the Radiation Oncology Service, Department of Radiology. Complete all training requirements as required by command.
  • Comply with radiation protection measures by wearing radiation film badge when on duty in accordance with the Army Regulation (AR) 40-14, Control and Recording Procedure for Occupation Exposures to Ionizing Radiation Therapy Service in the Department’s Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) Manual.
  • Perform routine assignments without specific guidelines or procedures.
  • Perform all forms of external beam radiation treatments within the Service to include: three (3) dimensional conformal radiotherapy, intensity modulated radiation therapy, and radiation treatments requiring anesthesia.
  • Train new and junior Radiation Therapists in radiation treatment and techniques specific to Alexander T. Augusta Military Medical Center Radiation Oncology equipment and software.
  • Serve as the point of contact for CT simulation and therapy standard operating procedures, including therapist competency checklists.
  • Oversee the management of Contractor Radiation Therapists schedule and clinic flow.
  • Coordinate with and provide instructions to Radiation Therapists

Qualifications

  • Must be a US Citizen

Education:

  • Completion of formal education as a Radiation Therapy Technologist, approved by the Committee on Allied Health Education and Accreditation (CAHEA). The program of formal education must be twenty-four (24) months in length or equivalent.

Certifications:

  • Basic Life Support (BLS)
  • Basic Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)

Experience:

  • A minimum of five (5) years of experience, with at least three (3) years occurring within the past five (5) years, as a Radiation Therapist.
  • Experience delivering or supervising the delivery of intensity modulated radiation therapy (IMRT).
  • Knowledge in radiation therapy technology.
  • Familiarity with medical care, anatomy, physiology, radiation therapy procedures, and therapy equipment.
  • Familiarity with technique charts, routine and all therapy treatment methods, state-of-the-art simulators, computer treatment programs (ARIA, rad calc, ect...) and linear accelerators.
  • Shall utilize collimator, equipment locks, mechanical tables, screen systems, and possess knowledge of radiation protection standards, devices and techniques, including concepts of accumulated dosage and genetic change, effects of radiation on living organisms and the effects of x-ray technical factors on patients and operator exposure.
