Job Description
Job Description
At Glacier, we are taking on one of the world’s most pressing problems: trash. Today, the U.S. sends over half of its recyclables to the landfill. We're working to fix that. In doing so, we’ll also be reducing carbon emissions, energy consumption, and depletion of natural resources.
Glacier’s first product is a robot that uses machine learning to recover recyclables more quickly and cheaply than any other sorter on the market. This robot diverts tons of recyclables (literally!) from landfills every day.
We’re hiring a Chief of Staff who will work directly with our founders on a wide variety of high-impact initiatives to support the needs of our rapidly growing company.
About us:
-
Our founders come from Facebook engineering and Bain consulting.
-
We’re backed by top-tier VCs with extensive technical and industry expertise.
-
We have a fleet in production and a robust pipeline of upcoming deployments.
About the role:
This role reports to Glacier’s CEO. Your scope is broad because you will be working on Glacier’s highest priorities, which are constantly evolving. You will be the first to explore many areas of the business in depth, and your work will lay the foundation to grow future teams in many functional areas. After 1-2 years as Chief of Staff, you will likely move into a leadership role over a function of your choosing.
Example focus areas include:
-
Business development: Directly manage projects with Glacier’s strategic partners, to ensure success in early pilots, and develop new use cases and value propositions for our offering.
-
Business analytics: Define, analyze, and draw insights from the metrics that help Glacier’s business thrive.
-
Internal tools and processes: Accelerate Glacier’s growth by identifying opportunities to improve internal processes - company planning, cross-functional interactions, documenting institutional knowledge, and so on.
-
Key strategic business initiatives: This includes projects such as identifying and scoping future business opportunities, research on macro industry trends, investor relations, refining pricing and monetization strategy, etc.
Skill requirements:
-
5+ years of experience in strategic and operational roles: Significant experience in roles requiring both strategic and operational skills. Including: startup business operations.
-
At least 3 years in management consulting
-
Analytics proficiency: Extensive experience with data analysis tools such as Excel or SQL.
-
Communication skills: Experience synthesizing qualitative and quantitative data and communicating clear insights to a wide range of audiences (from engineers to salespeople to customers to executives).
-
Self-starter mentality: Ability to proactively identify opportunities, structure ambiguous problems, then define and implement solutions with minimal guidance.
-
Leadership experience: Bonus points for prior experience leading teams.
This job may be a great fit for you if:
-
You enjoy working on a grab bag of projects
-
Your career aspirations put you on a founder, CEO, or COO path
-
You’re excited to be a “one-person show” (you can collect data, conduct analysis, make your slides, and run the executive check-in meeting solo)
-
No job is too big or small for you (you may be writing a keynote speech and mailing thank you cards on the same day!)
-
You thrive in dynamic environments and can adapt quickly to changing priorities
Why Join Us?
