Purpose of Role
The Payroll Specialist will act as a liaison between management and employees, ensuring that company policies and procedures are followed, and all payroll-related issues are resolved effectively and efficiently.
Primary Responsibilities Include:
• Retrieve timesheets from electronic timekeeping system. Contact employees with missing/late timesheets. Troubleshoot any user issues.
• Audit timecard report for errors and make corrections.
• Review payroll registers for accuracy and resolve any errors.
• Process and complete full cycle weekly payroll for prevailing wage, Davis Bacon, union, and non-union projects.
• Handle all payroll corrections.
• Print paychecks and create direct deposits.
• Process final paychecks
• Process and pay bonus checks.
• Create job specific pay templates to accommodate prevailing wage or Federal projects.
• Maintain and create setup for union payroll processing.
• Process garnishment paperwork and payroll setup.
• Setup new earn codes and deduction/liability codes as needed. Make sure codes are mapped correctly for accurate taxation.
• Update payroll software annually with new tax rates, 401K limits, and compensation limits.
• Manage vacation accruals; audit and resolve any errors.
• Weekly certified payroll reporting in LCP Tracker, DIR, or any software specified by the client.
• Monthly union reporting, Federal Department of Labor reporting, CAC payments, and Fringe Benefit payments.
• Pay weekly Federal and State taxes.
• Manage electronic timekeeping portal setup. Maintain approver groups, timesheet format, and user access.
• Create, balance taxable earnings, and file W-2’s using Aatrix.
• Work with HR to ensure new hires have access to the correct modules in the timekeeping system.
• Demonstrate and maintain a positive customer service focus to both internal and external customers.
• Assist in a wide variety of department assignments and/or special projects and other duties as assigned.
• Interact with various regional management teams, personnel departments, and field personnel to ensure the timely collection of payroll data and distribution of checks and reports.
Qualifications
Ideal:
• Certified Payroll: 1+ years of experience
• Construction Payroll: 4+ years of experience
• Union Payroll: 1+ years of experience
• Proficient in MS Office suite including Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint, and Project.
• Strong team collaboration skills.
• Experience processing multi-state payroll and keeping current with laws.
• Must be able to meet deadlines and put in the time needed to get the job done.
• Effective oral and written communication skills.
• Strong attention to detail with the ability to recognize discrepancies.
• Outstanding customer service skills.
• Experience in the construction industry will be favorably considered.
• High level of accuracy and efficiency with an emphasis on attention to detail.
• Courteous, professional manner, strong customer service skills
• Familiarity with Viewpoint Vista a plus.
Preferred:
• Associate degree or equivalent experience;
• CPP or FPC certification a plus.
• Minimum of 4 years' experience in payroll.
• Experience processing multi-state payroll required.
• Must have construction industry and certified payroll experience.
• Strong attention to detail.
• LPC Tracker experience

Compensation
