Job DescriptionRenewable Energy Tax Associate Attorney – Washington, DC or Houston, Texas
Direct Counsel is seeking a Renewable Energy Tax Associate Attorney to join a prestigious Am Law firm in its Washington, DC office. Qualified candidates interested in Houston may also be considered.
This opportunity is ideal for an attorney with 2–5 years of experience in transactional tax matters, particularly those involving renewable energy projects and tax credit-driven transactions. The successful candidate will join a nationally recognized tax practice and advise developers, investors, sponsors, and financial institutions on sophisticated renewable energy investments and related federal tax matters.
Key Responsibilities:

Advise clients on the federal income tax aspects of renewable energy transactions.

Structure and negotiate tax equity investments for renewable energy projects.

Counsel developers, investors, and sponsors regarding eligibility for U.S. federal tax credits and related incentives.

Support the tax aspects of project acquisitions, dispositions, financings, and joint ventures.

Analyze and advise on federal tax issues affecting renewable energy developments and investments.

Draft and review transaction documents related to tax-driven investments and project financing structures.

Collaborate with attorneys across tax, project finance, energy, and corporate practice groups.

Provide strategic and practical guidance on complex transactional tax matters.
Qualifications:

J.D. from an ABA-accredited law school.

Active membership and good standing with the Bar in Washington, DC, Texas, or eligibility for admission in the applicable jurisdiction.

2–5 years of transactional tax experience.

Experience advising on renewable energy transactions, tax equity investments, or related project finance matters.

Knowledge of U.S. federal tax credits and incentives applicable to renewable energy projects.

Strong drafting, analytical, and problem-solving abilities.

Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Ability to manage multiple sophisticated matters simultaneously.

Strong attention to detail and commitment to exceptional client service.

Outstanding academic credentials and experience with a leading tax practice preferred.
