The Alameda Point Collaborative works to end homelessness by providing housing and services to create communities where formerly homeless families and individuals can flourish.
Alameda Point Collaborative (APC) is a nonprofit agency operating on the site of the former Naval Air Base in Alameda, managing 200 housing units for over 500 formerly homeless residents and providing support services, including case management, counseling, employment training, and children and youth services.
PRIMARY FUNCTIONS
Primary Purpose and Function: The Director of Programs has the overall responsibility to plan, develop, and oversee the administration, implementation, monitoring, and evaluation of all programs. The Director will work closely with program managers and staff to ensure consistent, excellent quality, and positive, strategic impact across programs. The Director will also work collaboratively with the Executive Director and leadership team to uphold the agency’s mission and positively impact the lives served.
DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES
Staff Support and Development
- Attract, develop, and retain high-performance staff members, encouraging them to take on more responsibility and increase their skill level.
- Meet regularly with supervisees to review effective resident services, professional growth, and problem resolution and conflicts.
- Support managers to respond to resident and community emergencies.
- Create and update job descriptions.
- Provide consistent, high-quality program management that fulfills organizational and funder requirements.
- Carry out a program assessment that defines and assesses the goals of each of the four programs and identifies individual programs and department-wide recommendations for changes and improvements.
- Help create, manage, and monitor all program budgets.
- Work cooperatively with the property management department to stabilize residents in their housing.
- Deliver monthly reports to the Board on the progress of services and major developments.
- Collaborate with the Fund Development department to prepare grant proposals and support fundraising events.
- Establish ongoing relationships with local agencies and other organizations.
- Partner with the Executive Director to craft, define, and implement all new programs.
- Collaboratively work with the team of Directors to create and implement strategic plans and any other activities as requested by the executive director.
Administrative
- Ensure that all data and reports are current in the Homeless Management Information System County database (Clarity).
- Monitor and approve all staff timecards, expenses, and necessary agency program expenses.
- Manage all program budgets and expenses.
- Manage all service contracts to ensure we are achieving outcomes and working within the defined constraints of each contract.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS & SKILLS
The Director of Programs will thoroughly commit to APC’s strategy and mission. All candidates demonstrate leadership, coaching, relationship management experience, program development, evaluation skills, and success in managing funder relationships.
- Advanced degree (MSW preferred), with at least five years’ experience managing diverse workforces. Preference is given for previous management experience in a supportive/affordable housing setting and/or familiarity and experience with HUD Supportive Housing Program funding and regulations.
- Robust communication, reliability, consistency, and follow through skills required.
- Strong previous experience in program assessment and evaluation.
- Extensive program financial management experience includes creating annual program budgets.
- Enhanced contract management experience.
- Effective program implementation experience.
- Experience working as part of a leadership team and managing agency initiatives.
- Work effectively with diverse groups of people.
- Integrity, positive attitude, mission-driven, and self-directed. Committed to working collaboratively with staff from diverse backgrounds and formerly homeless residents, including children and adults.
