About This Role:

The HR Business Partner (HRBP) will serve as a trusted advisor and key operational partner to both employees and leadership across multiple functional areas of Coastline Academy. Reporting to the Director of Human Resources, the HRBP will drive critical people processes, support leadership with employee relations, manage HR operations, and ensure compliance with employment regulations across multiple states. The HRBP will play a vital role in enhancing the employee experience while executing on key HR initiatives that contribute to our people-first culture and high-growth business environment.


Key Responsibilities:

Employee Relations & Business Partnering

  • Serve as a primary point of contact for employee inquiries, coaching employees and managers on policies, performance, employee development, and conflict resolution.
  • Provide day-to-day HR guidance to managers regarding team management, performance, and employee relations.
  • Ensure fair, consistent, and legally compliant resolution of employee relations matters.
  • Partner with Director of HR on complex ER cases and investigations.

Talent Management & Performance

  • Support annual performance management cycles, feedback processes, and development planning.
  • Assist in identifying and developing high-potential employees, succession plans, and internal mobility opportunities.
  • Collaborate on leadership development initiatives and coaching programs.

Compliance, Policies, & Documentation

  • Monitor and ensure compliance with multi-state employment laws, company policies, and regulatory requirements.
  • Maintain accurate and compliant employee records and documentation.
  • Support HR audits, including ACA, EEO, Workers’ Compensation, and state-specific compliance filings.

Onboarding & Offboarding

  • Own and continuously improve onboarding, ensuring a consistent and engaging employee experience.
  • Support managers and employees through offboarding processes to ensure smooth transitions.

HRIS & Analytics

  • Manage HRIS updates, workflows, and employee data integrity (Paylocity).
  • Provide HR data reporting and analytics to support business decisions, headcount tracking, and workforce metrics.
  • Proactively identify trends and recommend HR process improvements.

Benefits & Compensation Support

  • Assist Director of HR with benefit programs, open enrollment, and employee benefit education.
  • Partner with HR leadership on compensation benchmarking, market reviews, and job leveling activities.

Special Projects

  • Lead or contribute to cross-functional HR projects, process improvement initiatives, and culture-building programs.
  • Collaborate on employee engagement survey administration and action planning.

Qualifications & Key Attributes for Success:

  • Bachelor’s degree in human resources, Business Administration, or related field preferred
  • PHR, CP, or relevant certification preferred
  • 4+ years progressive HR experience, ideally with some business partner responsibilities in a multi-state or remote workforce.
  • Solid understanding of federal and multi-state employment laws (California experience highly preferred).
  • Experience with HRIS platforms (Paylocity preferred).
  • Strong communication, coaching, and interpersonal skills with the ability to build trust across levels.
  • Analytical thinker with strong attention to detail and ability to translate data into insights.
  • Ability to balance hands-on HR operations with employee engagement and strategic support.
  • Thrives in a fast-paced, growth-oriented, fully remote environment.
