North Pittsburgh Oral Surgery (NPOS) has supported communities in and around Western Pennsylvania for 60 years. Job Summary:

Under the supervision of a doctor, sterilization technicians perform complex clinical duties in the operatory and consult rooms, adhering to established protocol. It's essential for all sterilization technicians to maintain a professional image and presentation, as this reflects directly on both the doctors and NPOS.

Through teamwork, sterilization technicians play a crucial role in ensuring the smooth and efficient flow of the office, while always maintaining a positive, respectful, and caring attitude toward patients, doctors, and co-workers.


Essential Functions/Responsibilities:

All shall be performed according to OSHA, DEA, HIPAA, and NPOS guidelines and expectations.

  • Remove waste from surgical trays and place in appropriate receptacles
  • Scrub, sterilize and package instruments
  • Maintain and operate the autoclave machines
  • Ensure that surgical trays are properly equipped and oriented
  • Practice NPOS environmental control for contaminated work areas and equipment
  • Restock in an organized manner, the clinical and surgical supplies delivered to the office on a daily or as needed basis
  • If not preparing a surgical tray, be available if help is needed by a fellow assistant in another surgery
  • Make up post op bags
  • Know & be able to implement emergency management protocols
  • Maintain patient confidentiality
  • Travel to other offices, as needed
  • Inform Clinical Manager of any staff or patient issues, concerns, or conflicts
  • Be willing to help with any additional tasks as designated by the managers or Doctors
  • When clinical responsibilities are accomplished, assist your co-workersin accomplishing theirs. THIS MUST BE A TEAM EFFORT.

Physical Requirements:

-Must be able to lift greater than 10 pounds

-Must be able to carry instruments and trays

-Must possess manual dexterity for scrubbing instruments

-Must be able to stand for long periods of time
