Position Summary:
The Birthing Advocate plays a vital role in empowering, educating, and supporting pregnant individuals before, during, and after childbirth. This role focuses on holistic, client-centered care that honors each birthing persons unique journey, including emotional, physical, and informational support.

Key Responsibilities:
Provide continuous emotional, physical, and informational support during the prenatal, labor, and postpartum periods
Attend births (hospital, birthing center, or home) as agreed with clients
Collaborate with doulas, medical professionals, and care managers to support the birthing plan
Advocate for the clients choices and rights during healthcare encounters
Educate clients on birth options, pain management techniques, postpartum care, and newborn care
Assist clients in creating birth and postpartum plans
Maintain documentation of services, visits, and outcomes
Provide culturally sensitive and trauma-informed care
Support breastfeeding and bonding as appropriate
Participate in trainings, team meetings, and supervision sessions
Uphold client confidentiality and all agency privacy policies

Qualifications:
Experience in birth work, doula support, community health, or maternal care
Passion for reproductive justice and maternal health equity
Ability to work with diverse populations with cultural humility
Reliable transportation and ability to travel for in-person visits and births
Strong communication, advocacy, and problem-solving skills
Flexibility to be on-call for birth support
CPR certification (or willingness to obtain)
Bilingual skills (Spanish or other community languages) are a plus
Medi-Cal provider eligibility or willingness to complete onboarding

Preferred Qualifications:
Lived experience or professional work within BIPOC or low-income communities
Familiarity with Medi-Cal and California maternal health initiatives
