Metfab Engineering, Inc. is seeking a knowledgeable and detail-driven Estimator to support our custom metal fabrication operations by developing accurate, competitive, and timely cost proposals. In this role, you will analyze project specifications, review technical drawings, and collaborate closely with engineering, production, and suppliers to ensure all estimates reflect true scope, feasibility, and profitability. The ideal candidate brings strong technical understanding of metal fabrication processes, excellent communication skills, and the ability to manage multiple complex projects in a fast-paced environment. This position plays a crucial role in shaping customer relationships and supporting successful quoting outcomes for the business.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Analyze project requirements: Review drawings, specifications, and customer requests to understand project scope and complexity.

Prepare cost estimates: Calculate material, labor, machine time, and subcontracting costs for custom parts and assemblies.

Develop quotes: Create detailed customer proposals and pricing packages that ensure both accuracy and profitability.

Vendor coordination: Obtain pricing from suppliers for raw materials, tooling, and outsourced processes.

Maintain cost database: Update and manage historical cost data, including materials, labor rates, and machine operations.

Collaborate with teams: Work with engineering and production to validate feasibility, lead times, and manufacturing requirements.

Other duties may be assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Extensive knowledge of metal fabrication processes and related technology.
  • Strong communication skills and comfort interacting with customers and vendors.
  • Sales awareness and the ability to support competitive quoting strategies.

PREFERRED ATTRIBUTES

  • Knowledge of metal fabrication, welding, and CNC machining processes.
  • Familiarity with lean manufacturing principles.
  • Strong attention to detail and the ability to meet tight deadlines.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Minimum 3 years of experience with metal fabrication processes.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints.
  • Proficiency in computer software including Word and Excel.
