Personal Care Assistant (PCA) – Special Education
Location: Philadelphia, PA 19154
Compensation: $20 per hour
Schedule: Monday–Friday | Full-Time, School Hours
Job Type: In-Person | School Setting

Do you have a passion for helping students succeed? As a Personal Care Assistant (PCA), you’ll work one-on-one or with a small group of students who need additional support to participate fully and successfully in the classroom. You’ll be part of a dedicated Special Education team, providing direct assistance under the guidance of the classroom teacher and Special Education supervisor.
Your role will directly impact a student’s ability to learn, grow, and thrive—making every day meaningful.
What You’ll Do

Prepare, collect, and set up learning materials as directed by the teacher

Provide instructional, behavioral, and/or physical support to students in both individual and small group settings

Assist with large group activities such as reading aloud, story time, or classroom projects

Guide independent study, enrichment, and remedial work assigned by the teacher

Maintain daily activity logs for assigned student(s)

Communicate important updates or concerns to the teacher

Support substitute teachers with essential student information

Operate or assist with mobility devices (e.g., wheelchairs, walkers, braces, canes)

Follow and implement student-specific behavior, medical, emergency, or crisis plans

Assist with self-care needs as assigned

Support therapy programs designed by speech, occupational, or physical therapists
-
Maintain confidentiality and uphold professional standards at all times
What We’re Looking For
-
Education: High School Diploma (required) – Additional qualifications as required by state/national regulations
-
Ability to read, understand, and follow instructions
-
Basic math skills (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division)
-
Good judgment, problem-solving skills, and ability to work independently
-
Strong interpersonal skills and ability to build positive relationships with students, staff, and families

Clear and concise verbal and written communication skills
-
Willingness to adapt to each student’s communication style and needs
Physical Requirements

Ability to stand, walk, talk, and hear regularly during the school day
-
Occasional sitting, climbing, stooping, kneeling, or crawling
-
Ability to lift and/or move up to 20 lbs and push similar weights (e.g., moving furniture or assisting students with mobility)

Close, distance, and peripheral vision required
