About the Role:

Midwest Dairy is seeking a strategic, service-minded, and forward-thinking technology leader to serve as our Director of Information Technology. Qualified candidates will have at least eight years of progressive experience in IT, including leadership roles managing systems infrastructure, cybersecurity, and enterprise technology initiatives. Must also have experience in leading teams. This position is based in our St. Paul, MN office and is a hybrid role.

In this role, you would be responsible for leading the design, implementation, and ongoing support of technology systems that enable Midwest Dairys mission-driven work. Youll oversee IT operations, manage system and data security, implement technology solutions, and guide cross-functional projects that improve efficiency and collaboration across the organization. The ideal candidate brings a balance of hands-on technical expertise and strategic leadership, with a strong focus on service delivery, continuous improvement, and organizational alignment.

Principal Position Responsibilities:

  • Develop and lead the organizations IT strategy, aligning technology solutions with operational and strategic goals.
  • Manage and develop the IT team by setting clear expectations, providing coaching, and fostering career growth.
  • Oversee the administration, maintenance, and performance of cloud platforms, software systems, networks, and telecommunications.
  • Serve as project manager for major IT initiatives, including system upgrades, new technology rollouts, and process enhancements.
  • Facilitate business needs analysis and lead the evaluation and implementation of cost-effective technology solutions.
  • Manage IT vendors and contracts, including RFPs, bid analysis, and service-level agreements.
  • Ensure organizational data and systems are secure and compliant with industry regulations and best practices.
  • Coordinate user support and system training, ensuring staff have the tools and knowledge needed to succeed.
  • Lead the IT budget planning and monitor spending to ensure cost-effective use of resources.
  • Supervise and develop IT team members or outsourced support, fostering a culture of innovation, service, and accountability.

Education and Experience:

A bachelors degree in information technology, Computer Science, or a related field is required. A masters degree or professional certifications in areas like project management, cybersecurity, or IT service delivery (e.g., PMP, CISSP, ITIL) are strongly preferred. Candidates should have at least eight years of progressively responsible experience in IT, with a minimum of three years in a leadership or strategic role. Experience in team management is necessary. Experience should include oversight of cloud-based systems, IT infrastructure, cybersecurity, vendor management, and enterprise software implementation. Familiarity with nonprofit or shared services environments is a plus.

Knowledge:

The Director of IT must possess comprehensive and up-to-date knowledge across a wide range of technology areas. This includes a deep understanding of technology infrastructure such as cloud platforms (e.g., Microsoft 365), computer operating systems, and both local and wide area networks. The role requires a solid grasp of cybersecurity principles, risk management practices, and data protection standards. Knowledge of enterprise software applications is essential, including productivity suites, customer relationship management (CRM) systems, document collaboration tools, and project or event management platforms. The Director should also have experience with IT governance, internal controls, and compliance requirements particularly in a nonprofit or mission-driven context.

In addition, the individual must be well-versed in strategic IT planning, including aligning technology solutions with organizational goals, managing system roadmaps, and leading digital transformation initiatives. Project management expertise is important as well as experience guiding cross-functional teams through complex implementations. A strong understanding of IT budgeting, financial planning, and vendor management is also essential, particularly in developing RFPs, analyzing bids, and negotiating contracts. Finally, the Director should have knowledge of IT service delivery models, user training practices, and support systems that enable staff productivity and system adoption.

Salary: $110,000-130,000
