Job Description
We are seeking a skilled PFAS LC/MS Analyst to join our environmental chemistry team. The successful candidate will be responsible for performing analysis of per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) using Liquid Chromatography coupled with Mass Spectrometry (LC/MS). This role involves conducting quantitative and qualitative analysis of PFAS compounds in environmental samples, including water, soil, and biological samples, while maintaining a commitment to quality and compliance with laboratory standards.
Key Responsibilities:
-
PFAS Analysis:
- Conduct PFAS analysis on environmental samples using Liquid Chromatography-Mass Spectrometry (LC/MS or LC-MS/MS) equipment in compliance with established methods (e.g., EPA 537, EPA 533, EPA 1633 methods).
- Prepare samples and standards according to validated protocols, ensuring accurate PFAS detection and quantification.
-
Method Development and Optimization:
- Assist in developing and optimizing LC/MS methods for PFAS analysis, including tuning of MS parameters and adjustment of chromatographic conditions to enhance detection limits and data quality.
- Contribute to the validation of new methods and technologies in PFAS analysis.
-
Quality Assurance and Quality Control (QA/QC):
- Perform rigorous QA/QC procedures to ensure data integrity and accuracy, including calibrations, control samples, blanks, and replicate analysis.
- Document all QA/QC activities and troubleshoot any deviations or discrepancies in accordance with laboratory protocols.
-
Instrument Maintenance and Troubleshooting:
- Maintain and calibrate LC/MS instrumentation, ensuring optimal operational performance.
- Identify, troubleshoot, and resolve issues with instrumentation and sample preparation equipment.
-
Data Analysis and Reporting:
- Analyze and interpret PFAS data, ensuring clarity, accuracy, and compliance with regulatory and client standards.
- Prepare detailed technical reports summarizing results, findings, and compliance with quality and regulatory standards.
-
Compliance and Safety:
- Adhere to all relevant laboratory safety and environmental protocols, ensuring a safe working environment.
- Stay current with regulatory guidelines, including EPA, ISO, and state-specific PFAS analysis standards.
Qualifications:
-
Education:
- Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry, Environmental Science, or a related scientific field (Master’s degree preferred).
-
Experience:
- 2+ years of hands-on experience with LC/MS or LC-MS/MS in an environmental or analytical lab setting.
- Specific experience with PFAS analysis and related EPA methods (e.g., EPA 537, 533 & 1633) is highly desirable.
-
Technical Skills:
- Strong understanding of mass spectrometry, liquid chromatography, and sample preparation techniques specific to PFAS analysis.
- Proficiency with data analysis software and laboratory information management systems (LIMS).
-
Other Skills:
- Excellent attention to detail, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills.
- Strong communication skills and ability to work collaboratively in a team-oriented environment.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Familiarity with PFAS regulatory frameworks and reporting requirements.
- Experience in method development or validation of analytical methods for emerging contaminants.
