Job Summary: Narger IT Services (NITS) is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior System Administrator to maintain and enhance our complex information systems. The ideal candidate will ensure the smooth operation of all environments, resolve issues, perform upgrades, and maintain security postures. This role requires a seasoned professional with a deep understanding of system architecture, network interactions, and application performance.

Key Responsibilities:

  • System Maintenance and Monitoring:

    • Maintain environments in development, DMZ, and internal networks, including both low side and high side systems.
    • Monitor system availability, deploy updates, isolate and resolve issues, and optimize performance.
    • Ensure the daily smooth operation of the assigned application, documenting and reporting any incidents.
  • Collaboration and Coordination:

    • Work closely with NTIA’s Network Operations and Information Technology Department (ITD) for patching, upgrading application components, and enhancing system performance.
    • Interact with ITD components such as hardware, LAN, WAN, domain controllers, Active Directory, and specialized servers.
  • User and System Administration:

    • Administer user accounts and passwords.
    • Perform system backups and log monitoring.
    • Provide daily status reports for all environments.
  • Contingency Planning and Recovery:

    • Develop and execute contingency plans for software and hardware failures.
    • Collaborate with NTIA’s Network Operations group on disaster recovery exercises and tests.
  • System Upgrades and Security:

    • Perform upgrades and patching for Oracle, IIS, Apache, Tomcat, GWT, Bizflow, and other application components.
    • Set up reverse proxies and other traffic routes as required.
    • Update system security plans and assist with Authority-to-Operate (ATO) activities.
  • Independent Operations:

    • Work independently as the sole system administrator for the application.
    • Generate and analyze system statistics and availability reports using tools like Solarwinds.
  • Compliance and Best Practices:

    • Maintain a compliant cyber and application security posture, ensuring adherence to industry best practices and federal standards.
    • Communicate regularly with clients and teams, maintaining open and effective communication channels.
  • Procedures and Capacity Planning:

    • Develop and maintain standard operating procedures for routine maintenance and operations.
    • Implement a proactive capacity planning model to support business decisions.
    • Administer JIRA, SubVersion, and Team Foundations Server (TFS).

Qualifications:

  • Experience:

    • Minimum of ten years of experience in system administration, with at least seven years of specialized experience.
    • Specialized experience includes supervising system architects, structured analysis and design methodologies, object-oriented principles, and large-scale information systems architecture.
  • Education:

    • Master’s degree in computer science/systems, information systems/technology, engineering/engineering technology, software engineering/programming, management, natural sciences, social sciences, mathematics, or business/finance.
    • Alternatively, a Ph.D. with eight years of general experience (six years specialized), or a Bachelor’s degree with 12 years of general experience (nine years specialized).
  • Security Clearance:

    • Must have an active Secret security clearance.

Skills:

  • Proficiency in managing complex information systems and ensuring compliance with open systems architectures and industry standards.
  • Ability to evaluate and resolve problems analytically and systematically.
  • Strong collaboration and communication skills, both written and oral.
  • Experience with Oracle, IIS, Apache, Tomcat, GWT, Bizflow, JIRA, SubVersion, and TFS.
  • Knowledge of system security and ATO activities.
