Job Summary:


The part-time Billing & Claims Specialist is responsible for preparing, submitting, and tracking claims across multiple programs within a nonprofit human services organization. This part-time role ensures accurate billing, timely reimbursement, and compliance with Medicaid and other payer requirements. The position works closely with program staff, case managers, and the Billing and Claims Dire to maintain a smooth and efficient revenue cycle that supports Switchpoint’s mission.

Job Responsibilities:

Billing & Claims Processing


  • Submit claims through UHIN and Prism for Medicaid and commercial payers
  • Pull and review service data from UHMIS, EHR systems, and program logs
  • Check documentation for accuracy, completeness, and compliance before billing
  • Process corrections, resubmissions, and follow-up on unpaid or denied claims
  • Post payments and assist with basic accounts reconciliation
  • Maintain organized and accurate billing records

Medicaid-Specific Duties


  • Verify Medicaid eligibility and ensure services meet billing requirements
  • Follow state and MCO guidelines for Medicaid claims
  • Troubleshoot and resolve Medicaid denials or documentation issues


Compliance & Standards


  • Ensure billing practices align with HIPAA, payer rules, and internal procedures
  • Assist with internal and external audit requests
  • Always maintain confidentiality and accuracy


Coordination & Communication


  • Communicate with program teams to resolve missing or incomplete documentation
  • Provide simple reports on billing status, denials, and outstanding claims
  • Collaborate with leadership to ensure accurate service documentation and strong billing workflows.


Qualifications:

Education


  • High school diploma required
  • Associate degree or billing coursework preferred
  • Billing/coding certifications (CPC, CPB, etc.) are a plus


Experience


  • 2+ years of billing and claims experience preferred
  • Experience with Medicaid billing strongly preferred
  • Familiarity with UHIN, Prism, UHMIS, and Best Notes is a plus
  • Nonprofit or human services experience helpful


Skills

  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy
  • Problem-solving skills, especially with denials
  • Clear communication and follow-up abilities
  • Proficiency with Excel and billing platforms
  • Ability to work independently in a part-time role

Compensation:

  • The salary range is $29,700–$33,500 annually depending on experience.
  • This position is part-time and includes access to eligible organizational benefits in accordance with Friends of Switchpoint’s part-time employee policies.
