Position Overview
The Assistant Parts Manager will support the Parts Manager in overseeing inventory, procurement, vendor relationships, logistics, and compliance. This role ensures timely parts availability, efficient warehouse operations, and strict adherence to quality and safety standards in support of mission-critical marine systems.
Key Responsibilities
Inventory & Warehouse Management
- Maintain accurate inventory using ERP/CMMS systems. Conduct regular cycle counts and audits.
- Oversee warehouse organization, shipping/receiving, and part staging for installation.
Sales & Contract Management
- Prepare offers for prospective material awards
- Review and process material awards
Procurement & Vendor Coordination
- Review purchase orders, track order status, resolve delays.
- Build and maintain supplier relationships; conduct vendor evaluations and performance tracking.
Parts Support for Installation & Maintenance
- Coordinate part availability with engineering, project management, and field teams.
- Expedite critical parts to meet installation/service schedules.
Quality & Compliance
- Ensure parts meet technical and regulatory standards. Support inspections and resolve non-conformance.
- Maintain records/documentation to support traceability and audit readiness.
Process Improvement & Cost Control
- Analyze parts usage trends, drive cost-saving initiatives.
- Implement warehouse efficiency practices, including labeling, layout, and organization.
Team Collaboration
- Assist in supervising warehouse and clerical staff. Provide training and coordinate with cross-functional teams.
Requirements:
Education & Experience
- Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain, Logistics, Engineering, or related field (or equivalent experience).
- 3–5 years in parts/inventory management, ideally in marine, defense, or industrial environments.
Technical Skills
- Proficiency with ERP/CMMS systems; familiarity with SAP, SAGE, Epicor, or similar preferred.
- Strong understanding of MRO (maintenance, repair, and operations) parts processes and performance metrics.
Professional Skills
- Excellent communication and vendor relationship skills.
- Strong analytical, organizational, and multitasking abilities.
- Experience with audits, regulatory compliance, and ISO standards is a plus.
Other Requirements
- Ability to lift/move up to 50 lbs; comfortable working in warehouse, office, and shipyard environments.
- Willingness to travel occasionally to shipyards, suppliers, and project sites.
