Job Summary
The A&P Mechanic IV – Experimental Flight Test is a highly experienced technical leader responsible for overseeing complex maintenance and modification activities across experimental flight test programs. This role provides subject matter expertise in aircraft systems, supports engineering development efforts, and ensures the highest levels of test aircraft readiness and safety. The Mechanic IV operates with minimal supervision, mentors team members, and plays a strategic role in advancing test operations.
This position requires advanced diagnostic capability, deep systems knowledge, and a proven track record in experimental flight environments. The Mechanic IV partners with engineering, quality, and program teams to lead aircraft integration efforts, troubleshoot novel system interactions, and ensure compliance with FAA and company standards throughout the test lifecycle.
Schedule
Monday - Thursday | 6:00am - 4:30pm; Overtime as required
Duties and Responsibilities/Essential Functions
- Lead the planning, execution, and documentation of complex maintenance and modification efforts on experimental aircraft.
- Provide expert-level troubleshooting across airframe, powerplant, avionics, electrical, and instrumentation
- Collaborate with engineering teams to validate new designs, identify failure modes, and implement corrective actions during test.
- Lead or support test configuration control, including installation of flight test instrumentation and systems
- Interpret and validate engineering drawings, test instructions, and system schematics to guide maintenance
- Recommend and implement changes to aircraft and aircraft systems to meet regulatory compliance, design requirements, safety objectives, and customer needs. Collaborate closely with engineering and project teams to validate proposed modifications, support root cause investigations, and influence design outcomes based on real-world test and maintenance insights.
- Participate in and influence flight test readiness reviews, risk assessments, and test planning
- Execute and oversee engine run-ups, functional checks, ground test operations, and support test execution on the flight line.
- Develop and refine maintenance processes and best practices to improve test efficiency, safety, and
- Mentor junior and mid-level technicians; serve as a technical resource for troubleshooting and
- Ensure complete, timely, and accurate documentation of all maintenance and test activities in accordance with FAA and internal procedures.
- Coordinate with leadership, engineering, and scheduling teams to align maintenance priorities with test program
- Support aircraft inspections, airworthiness validations, and regulatory compliance
Qualifications

- FAA Airframe & Powerplant (A&P) Certificate required; equivalent military or experimental test aircraft experience may be considered, IA required.
- 10+ years of aircraft maintenance experience with significant focus on experimental, developmental, or flight test
- Expert-level knowledge in airframe, powerplant, avionics, and instrumentation
- Demonstrated leadership in complex test environments and the ability to lead through ambiguity and
- Proven track record of supporting experimental aircraft in both developmental and certification test
- Strong working knowledge of FAA regulations, test safety protocols, and configuration
- Advanced proficiency in interpreting engineering documentation, technical drawings, and test
- Strong communication, documentation, and collaboration skills across cross-functional
- Capable of serving as technical liaison between engineering, quality, and flight
- Garmin avionics and modern data acquisition systems experience strongly
