This position will be located in either Norwalk, CT, Itasca, IL or Edina, MN. Incumbent will work in the office 5 days a week.
Position Overview
The Data Governance Director will lead the development and implementation of data governance and quality strategies across the organization. This role is responsible for ensuring data integrity, compliance, and accessibility, while driving continuous improvement in data management practices. The Director partners with executive leaders and peers across MHCA to promote shared standards, responsible access, high-quality insights, and self-service analytics—empowering faster decisions and enhancing the customer experience.

This position is required to possess a comprehensive understanding of and adhere to the system of internal controls associated with the fundamental duties and responsibilities of the role. This includes compliance with SOX and all other pertinent regulatory and compliance policies and requirements.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Define and execute the enterprise data governance strategy aligned with MHCAs business objectives and priority analytics use cases.
- Support the overall MHCA strategy by aligning closely with Data Technology, Operational Governance, and Business teams—acting as an enabler to ensure governance accelerates delivery, innovation, and value creation.
- Partner with business stakeholders to co-create data standards, policies, and definitions that drive alignment and usability.
- Lead MHCA’s data catalog, lineage, and quality program, identifying root causes and driving systemic improvements in data pipelines.
- Accelerate key data-driven initiatives by improving data quality and defining success metrics for trusted data use.
- Oversee the identification of data owners and stewards, clarifying roles, and reinforcing accountability.
- Collaborate with Data Technology team to define Master Data Management (MDM) strategy and governance, including evaluating opportunities for greater centralization.
- Ensure compliance with legal, privacy, and security policies through proactive engagement and oversight.
- Maintain governance and quality metrics, dashboards, and reporting to measure adoption, quality, and business value.
- Advise senior leaders on balancing governance with agility and business outcomes.
- Drive adoption of self-service data tools, literacy programs, and practices that democratize access across functions.
Key Performance Indicators:
- KPIs for data governance include data accuracy and completeness rates.
- This role will be evaluated on created data governance policies and the adoption rate.
- Identifying data stewards, assigning data owners and participation of stewards in data quality initiatives.
Responsibility and Decision-Making Authority:
- Support the Operational Governance and Business team with ongoing review and reporting on the MHCA portfolio.

Qualifications
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Leadership: Proven ability to lead, develop, and inspire high-performance in a dynamic environment; ensures the Business teams have the tools and clarity to be successful.
- Executive Stakeholder Management: Proactively engages stakeholders to understand their challenges and goals. Ability to have a business-first viewpoint.
- Strategic Thinking: Applies an enterprise mindset to turn governance into business value and scalable models; clearly articulates a future vision and rallies support around it.
- Technical Expertise: Deep knowledge of enterprise data platforms (e.g., Azure Cloud) metadata, MDM, catalog/data quality tools (Collibra), and SQL/NoSQL for data profiling and validation. Familiarity with Azure Databricks, PowerBI and SQL programming is preferred.
- Critical thinker that can look “out of the box” for solutions.
- Adept at working with and presenting to senior level executives.
- Strong interpersonal, organizational and communication skills.
- Strong computer software skills (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, etc.).
- Team player with a positive attitude.
- Self-starter.
Education and Experience:
- Minimum 10 years’ related experience in a scaled Enterprise Data Analytics organization; financial institution exposure preferred.
- Track record of driving successful Data Governance transformations and enterprise change management.

Working Hours:
- Hours may vary and require overtime work depending on business needs.
Travel:
- Some travel to client meetings and conferences on an as needed basis.
Physical Demands:
- Digital dexterity and hand/eye coordination in operation of office equipment
- Light lifting and carrying supplies, files, etc.
- Ability to speak to and hear customers and/or other employees via phone or in person.
- Body motor skills are sufficient to enable incumbent to move from one office location to another.

The position is exempt and the salary will be between $152,000.00 and $171,000.00 with an opportunity to earn (a discretionary annual bonus).
The salary range is determined and based on internal equity, market data/ranges, applicant's skills, prior relevant experience and education.
