Rocky Mount State Historic Site is looking for an enthusiasticHistorical Crafts & Activities Guideto lead engaging, hands-on experiences for K-8 students and visitors. This role is perfect for someone who enjoyscrafts, storytelling, and interactive learningno prior teaching experience required.

Job Details
- Seasonal & Part-Time Follows the school year calendar.
- Weekday, daytime hours Typically 8:30 AM to 2:00 PM, based on school group bookings.
- Some weeks may havetwo to three workdays, while others may haveno scheduled hours, making it ideal for those who need flexibility.
- Occasional opportunities to assist withspecial events and seasonal programs.
What Youll Do
- Guide students and visitors through hands-on historic crafts such as candle dipping, pewter casting, soap making, and quill pen writing.
- Provide historical context for each craft, explaining its significance in the 18th century.
- Set up, maintain, and clean workspaces and craft materials before and after sessions.
- Ensure visitor safety, especially when working with hot wax, pewter, and other tools.
- Engage with children, teachers, and visitors, making history an exciting and interactive experience.
Preferred Qualifications
- Flexible availability during weekday school hours (typically two to three days per week, but varies).
- Experience working with children in an educational, museum, or camp setting.
- Background in crafts, history, education, or hands-on demonstrations (training provided).
- Strong communication and storytelling skills with the ability to make history engaging for young learners.
- Comfortable working outdoors in a historic setting.
- Ability to lift and transport craft materials as needed.
- Enthusiasm for history and a willingness to learnhistorical knowledge is a plus but not required.
Available shifts and compensation: Available shifts all days except Sundays and Saturdays. Compensation is $10.00 - $13.00/hour.
