Lead Teacher
Position Description
SUMMARY
SONshine House, part of Emanuel Lutheran Church & School, is seeking a Lead Childcare Provider to bring your love for children and past experience in childcare, daycare or early childhood education to our campus.
SONshine House provides childcare Monday-Friday, 6:30 AM-5:30 PM. We offer before and after school care, full and part time care, and serve breakfast, lunch and afternoon snack.
The SONshine House is a ministry of Emanuel Lutheran Church. We offer childcare services for infants through age 10. Our caregivers are licensed, trained and experienced in Child Development and CPR. The children take part in planned daily themed activities, circle time, Bible stories, monthly Bible verses, crafts, songs, games, dramatic play, gross and fine motor practice, outdoor play, and much more!
RESPONSIBILITIES

Encourage a positive Christian environment that is safe, happy and stimulating for children.

Diapering and feeding infants, co-playing and supervision of children and infants.

Develop, manage and coordinate curricula, and teach with the assistance of other care providers.

Assist with ensuring that center facilities are safe and clean for children, and that they comply with all relevant laws and regulations.

Assist in identifying general repairs and maintenance needs.

Evaluate and request purchase of materials, equipment, and supplies (including, but not limited to groceries, toys, office supplies and supplies for curricula).

Support caregivers by promoting their professional development and ensuring training requirements are met and maintained.

Complete ongoing training and courses to remain up to date on daycare standards and procedures.

Communicate and meet with parents regarding their children.

Work within budget guidelines provided by the Board of Directors.

Develop and write monthly newsletter for distribution on Emanuel Campus and SONshine House families.

Create and share a brief weekly email summary for parents.

Attend the Board of Directors meeting as scheduled.
QUALIFICATIONS
Education/Certification indicating one of the following:
-
Bachelor’s degree in Education with a concentration in Child Development or Early Childhood preferred

Completion of a 9-month child development assistant program at an accredited technical college
-
Kindergarten – 6th grade teaching degree from an accredited university or college
-
Current Level 1 or Level 2 pre-K license from the Department of Education
-
documentation of a minimum of six months satisfactory experience as a full-time teacher at a state licensed group day care center.
Additionally:

CPR Certified (or willingness to obtain)
Special Knowledge/Skills:

Thorough understanding of childcare center operations

Strong organizational, communication, public relations, computer and interpersonal skills

Ability to coordinate center functions
-
Ability to implement policy and procedures
-
Knowledge and implementation of Minnesota childcare guidelines and state licensing
-
Accepts and respects differences in children, parents and coworkers

Ability to manage a budget
EXPERIENCE
Preferred minimum one year experience as a teacher in a licensed daycare facility or schoolteacher of young children.
