Position Title: Assistant Foreperson - Nord Farm
Department: Propagation
Reports To: Foreperson - Propagation
FLSA Status: Non-Exempt, 40 hrs./week
Position Summary:
This position plays a key role in the movement of products within the facility. We are seeking a hands-on, organized, and proactive Assistant to help coordinate daily operations involving product movement, consolidation, disposal, and seasonal preparation of young plants. This position is responsible for supervising crews in the greenhouses and on the farm, ensuring efficient workflow and maintaining a safe, productive work environment.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Supervise and coordinate crews responsible for, but not limited to:
- Moving and relocating product within the facility or designated areas.
- Consolidating inventory and organizing products for efficiency and accuracy.
- Junking & disposing of unsellable/damaged items according to company standards.
- Preparing product and spaces for seasonal transitions (e.g., winterization/storage or spring forcing in greenhouses).
- Oversee, train, develop, and monitor crew leaders on operational tasks and safety procedures
- Assist the Foreperson with organizing daily and weekly work plans for crews
- Ensure crew leaders have the proper supplies, equipment, and information needed for a safe and efficient workflow.
- Monitor processes to ensure maximum productivity; track daily performance against benchmarks set by the Foreperson.
- Communicate product location and inventory changes in a timely manner (verbal and written) with affected departments.
- Practice and enforce Bailey Nurseries company policies and safety protocols.
- Operate or assist with the operation of necessary equipment, including but not limited to small tractors, forklifts, and golf carts.
- Other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications:
- Experience working in outdoor, physical, or hands-on environments (such as landscaping, farming, construction, nursery, or similar fields).
- Basic computer skills and ability to read and complete documents, reports, and computer tasks in English.
- Ability to assess tasks and suggest improvements to efficiency, quality, and safety.
- Strong organizational and time-management skills.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Strong communication skills and a willingness to collaborate closely with a diverse, multicultural workforce; openness to learning about different cultures and languages is valued.
Physical Requirements and Work Environment:
- Willingness and availability to work extended hours, including weekends during peak season, as required.
- Physical demands may include extensive periods of standing or walking, some lifting, and potential exposure to extreme temperatures.
