Job DescriptionThe approximate base compensation range is posted, but the actual offer will reflect our total compensation and benefits package. The offer will be determined by a number of factors, including the selected candidate’s experience, knowledge, skills, abilities, FTE, number of months worked, as well as internal equity among our team.


The Student Success Advisor is a 100% federally funded position through the Department of Education. This position is contingent upon continuous funding and is an 11-month position.


Job Summary

The Student Success Advisor is responsible for providing advising, support, and advocacy to eligible students (first-generation, low-income, and students with a disability) through direct service in individual meetings, advising, program development, execution of high-impact practices/best practices, and promoting holistic student development. The Student Success Advisor works alongside the Director and Assistant Director to retain and graduate students.


Key Responsibilities

  • Guide students through the process of formulating personalized education success plans and strategies for academic, career, financial, and personal success that are reflective of their unique set of values, strengths, interests, and identities.

  • Facilitate learning and personal development by engaging students in critical, creative, and reflective thinking.

  • Create a connection to the value of engagement in co-curricular experiences (e.g., internships, service learning, research opportunities, learning abroad, civic engagement, leadership development, student groups, etc.) and how they align with students’ academic and career goals.

  • Utilize a holistic advising model to guide, challenge, and support students and connect them to resources.

  • Utilize and maintain complete and accurate records on all students in a secure and confidential manner.

  • Assist with analyzing data and feedback to evaluate and assess program effectiveness.

  • Develop and lead workshops and other programming events that promote learning and engagement of student participants.

  • Assist with new student orientation (presentations and meetings with incoming students and families) and welcome returning students for the academic year.

  • Assist in student success initiatives to improve retention/persistence rate, four-year graduation rate, good academic standing, and student satisfaction.

  • Assist with special projects or other duties as assigned in support of TRIO SSS and the College.

  • Assist with creating multimedia marketing materials and campaigns that promote and communicate the program offerings and success stories of the SSS program.

  • Assist with maintaining social media, website, and other online community platforms.

  • Support an institutional culture of equity, diversity, and inclusion for SSS participants by amplifying student voices and serving on relevant CSS committees/initiatives

  • Manage the program protocols for academic development, including notifications of Academic Progress Reports for students

  • Manage the Faculty Mentor program


Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in education, psychology, student personnel, or related area and 2 years of relevant experience.

  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with campus and community partners.

  • Ability to use independent judgment and critical thinking to support student and program outcomes.

  • Professional or lived experiences that build awareness and empathy for students' lived experiences in the served population.

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.

  • Ability to work effectively with diverse populations.


Preferred Qualifications

  • Demonstrated commitment to fostering student learning and applying organization/student development theory to work with students.

  • Demonstrated effective written, oral, computer, social media, and human relations skills.

  • Previous experience with TRIO or other educational opportunity programs.

  • Master’s degree in education, psychology, student personnel, or related area and 2 years of relevant experience.
