How You'll Contribute to Our Partner's Success:
As the Transportation Manager, youll lead daily transportation operations and drive logistics strategy across both live and finished product movement. With oversight of internal drivers, third-party logistics partners, and live haul scheduling, you will ensure safe, compliant, and cost-effective transportation of poultry and finished goods. Your leadership will directly impact supply chain efficiency, fleet management, and overall operational performance across the organization.
Transportation Oversight and Compliance
- Manage day-to-day transportation operations, including internal driver teams and 3rd party logistics partnerships.
- Provide direct oversight to the Live Haul Supervisor, ensuring precise scheduling, dispatching, and animal welfare standards for live duck transport.
- Ensure all routing, vehicle assignments, and delivery activities meet DOT hour requirements and company policy.
- Maintain driver qualification files, ensuring complete DOT compliance and addressing safety or performance issues proactively.
- Design and implement transportation-related training programs and audits to promote safety, efficiency, and regulatory adherence.
- Support customer satisfaction by investigating and resolving transportation-related service issues in coordination with warehouse and customer service teams.
- Maintain and monitor compliance with Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs) and report all animal welfare or food safety concerns immediately.
Strategic Planning and Operational Excellence
- Participate in long-term logistics strategy development, identifying areas for continuous improvement, cost savings, and service enhancement.
- Identify and secure backhaul opportunities to reduce costs and increase transportation efficiency.
- Lead fleet management, including lease contract negotiations, preventive maintenance compliance, and vendor performance.
- Analyze transportation expenditures and KPIs to develop operating plans, cost control measures, and service benchmarks.
- Implement systems and software to enhance routing, tracking, and load optimization.
- Drive communication and alignment across operations, warehouse, and logistics partners to ensure smooth execution and high service levels.
What Youll Need to Succeed:
Education:
Bachelors degree in Transportation, Supply Chain, or a related field preferred.
Experience:
5+ years of progressive transportation management experience, including team leadership, routing, and third-party logistics.
Experience in the food or protein industry preferred.
CDL Class A license strongly preferred.
Leadership:
Proven ability to lead transportation teams, communicate clearly, and enforce policies with minimal supervision.
Comfortable managing in a regulated, fast-paced environment with complex routing and compliance demands.
Technical Knowledge:
- Deep understanding of DOT regulations, routing software, and logistics operations
- Experience with FTL, LTL, inbound/outbound shipments, and live haul management
- Strong working knowledge of GMPs, safety protocols, and animal welfare transportation standards
- Advanced skills in Excel, Outlook, and logistics-related platforms
- Strong problem-solving, communication, and organizational skills
- Financial awareness and ability to build transportation budgets and cost-control strategies
