Job Description

The Speech - Language Pathologist will be responsible for working with both Early Intervention (birth-3) and preschool children in group and individual therapeutic activities, conducting evaluations, coordinating goals and objectives with other professionals, working with families and working with the Director of Clarke-New York.

This position reports to the director of Clarke’s NY Campus.

This is a 12-month position with general hours of 8:00am-4:00 pm. Bilingual candidates are strongly encouraged to apply.

Duties and Performance Responsibilities

  • Provision of diagnostic Speech, Language and Auditory Therapy to children with hearing loss birth to age 3 through the Early Intervention Program and 3-5 year olds in the Preschool program
  • Complete all required notes/record keeping (EI, Easytrac, Clarke internal documentation, etc.)
  • Conduct formal and informal evaluations for children with or without hearing loss
  • Develop therapy plans for both Individual and group sessions for EI and preschool
  • Facilitate individual, group and parent/child therapy sessions
  • Assist teachers with developing and maintaining an auditory environment and setting appropriate language goals within the classroom
  • Troubleshoot cochlear implant processors, hearing aids, bahas and accessories
  • Keep current with trends and research in the field of hearing loss
  • Communicate regularly with parents
  • Actively engage in professional growth
  • Adhere to all policies and procedures stated in the employee handbook
  • Communicate and collaborate with CI teams, private therapists and other professionals/referral sources

Meetings, Planning and Written Reports:

  • Participate in meetings with educational team to discuss children’s progress
  • Participate in staff meetings, weekly
  • Participate in parent meetings as needed
  • Participate in CASSLS conferences
  • Participate in parent workshops or Clarke community events
  • Participate in parent conferences, team meetings, staff development and special school wide events
  • Complete appropriate paperwork and reports related to the provision of Early Intervention and preschool services and evaluations
  • Develop IEP and IFSP documents
  • Communicate with parents through various modes such as communication notebooks and school blog
  • Prepare progress reports and IEP proposals
  • Daily assessment of progress based on service provided
  • Document progress as needed for LSL-DR

ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Director.
  • Promote Clarke’s Mission and Goals
  • Assist with maintaining a clean, safe, neat and family friendly environment
  • Attend community outreach events
  • Participate/plan parent workshops

Requirements

  • Masters Degree in Speech and Language Pathology
  • Appropriate certifications in Speech and Language Pathology from ASHA and NYSED
  • Listening and Spoken Language AVT or AVEd certificated, in process, or interest, preferred
  • Educational experience/training working with children in a therapeutic center based setting and expertise in auditory/oral/verbal methodology in working with children with hearing loss.
  • Strong commitment to a listening spoken language approach and methodology for the development of spoken language skills for children with hearing loss
  • Effective planning and organizational skills
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Flexibility
  • Ability to establish rapport with and work collaboratively with students, teachers, parents, and outside agencies
  • Experience giving formal and informal assessments, interpreting results, developing recommendations
