Certified Phlebotomy Technician
Location: Central Texas (Temple, Waco, and Austin areas)
Employment Type: Full-Time (Contract)
Shifts: 24/7 Coverage (Includes 8, 10, or 12-hour shifts; rotating weekends and holidays)
Overview
We are seeking dedicated Certified Phlebotomy Technicians to provide high-quality care to our Veteran population within the Central Texas Veterans Health Care System (CTVHCS). You will perform vital laboratory specimen collection and processing across inpatient and outpatient settings, ensuring timely results for patient diagnosis and treatment.
Key Responsibilities
- Specimen Collection: Perform venipuncture and urine collections using various techniques (vacutainer, syringe, butterfly) based on patient age and condition.
- Patient Care: Verify patient identification per policy, explain procedures with empathy, and monitor patients for adverse reactions (fainting, etc.).
- Processing: Handle specimen centrifugation, aliquoting, and tracking/distribution to laboratory sections.
- Safety & Compliance: Strictly follow universal precautions, infection control guidelines, and wear required PPE (including respirators in isolation/COVID rooms).
- Administrative: Accession orders via computer systems, accurately label specimens, and maintain supply inventory.
Required Qualifications
- Education: High School Diploma or equivalent.
- Certification: * Completion of a certified phlebotomy program OR Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) Certification.
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) from the American Heart Association (AHA).
- Experience: At least 12 months of documented, full-time phlebotomy experience.
- Skills: Proficiency in spoken and written English; strong attention to detail and ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
- Security: Must be able to pass a federal background investigation (Low Risk/Fingerprinting).
