Join our team at East River Electric Power Cooperative! Are you passionate about advancing the design and reliability of electric transmission systems? East River Electric is seeking a forward-thinking Engineering Services Manager to lead the engineering services team. As a key member of our operations leadership team, you will champion engineering excellence, oversee critical projects, and make a real impact every day. In this role, you'll lead the charge in transmission system design, electric plant budgeting, mapping, and land management. You'll direct a talented team responsible for everything from transmission line and substation design to telecommunications and system protection. Your work will help ensure our members receive the power they need-safely, efficiently, and reliably.
At East River Electric Power Cooperative we're dedicated to providing reliable and affordable wholesale power to our members across 40,000 square miles of service area. As a not-for-profit generation and transmission cooperative, we provide electricity to 24 rural electric distribution cooperatives and one municipally owned electric system serving eastern South Dakota and western Minnesota. Our members, in turn, power the lives of the member-owners in their service territories.

- Direct electric system design and budgeting, covering everything from transmission lines and substations to telecommunications and system protection and controls.
- Guide teams working on drafting, mapping, GIS, our drone program, surveying, land management, and making sure we're in line with environmental regulations.
- Set the standards and criteria for transmission designs, system upgrades, and member delivery points to keep our operations running smoothly.
- Work collaboratively with others to shape construction plans and annual budgets for our electric plant.
- Understand Rural Utilities Services (RUS) standards to make sure our engineering standards, construction plans, and environmental studies meet requirements.
- Develop and manage external contracts, making sure everything aligns with the department's responsibilities.
- Represent East River at meetings with regulatory bodies, RUS, and other organizations, and participate in forums, committees, and working groups.
- Communicate engineering projects and work plans with other departments, member systems, and utilities
- Evaluate your team's staffing needs, establish specific objectives, and provide coaching to support their growth and success.
- Champion our safety culture, making sure we follow all safety standards and practices.
Showcase Your Knowledge, Abilities, and Expertise. Do you have?
- Bachelor's degree in engineering or a related field
- At least five (5) years of progressively responsible experience in electric utility
- Professional Engineering License in South Dakota and Minnesota, preferred. (A combination of education and relevant experience may be considered in lieu of PE registration.)
- Effective written and verbal communication skills
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and project management abilities
- Ability to prioritize and organize a variety of tasks simultaneously and effectively
- Leadership skills to inspire, coach, and develop others
- Ability to build constructive relationships in collaboration with internal and external teams
- Proficiency in using Microsoft Office products and computer technology
