POSITION PURPOSE:
The Rover serves as a flexible team member who fills in across various roles within the Treating Plant and Shipping & Receiving departments. This role requires in-depth knowledge of both departments, ensuring safe, right, and fast operations. The Rover duties include forklift operation, yard truck operation, counting, leading, tagging, and treating aligning with UTDs mission, vision, values, and brand commitment.
JOB OVERVIEW:
- This is a full-time position. Generally, the work schedule varies and may include some Saturdays. If possible, the weekly work schedule for this position is shared in advance.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Fill in for the Treating Plant and Shipping & Receiving departments when team members are out and when additional work helps the team.
- Make consistent efforts to strive for excellence while performing the job.
- Lead the team by meeting daily production goals, scheduling and helping others to perform tasks within the Treating Plant and Shipping & Receiving departments as needed.
- Conduct daily pre-shift meetings and report updates to the Operations Manager as needed.
- Lead by example to ensure safe, accurate, and efficient task completion.
- Operate forklifts, trucks and other machinery per UTD, OSHA, DOT, and product-specific standards.
- Maintain and protect all property entrusted to you in excellent condition.
- Be on time and in compliance with the Company Handbook.
- Communicate needs and issues directly to the Operations Manager.
- Any other tasks assigned by VP Operations or Operations Manager.
SHIPPING & RECEIVING
- Maintain and monitor inventory, addressing any discrepancies.
- Maintain adherence to appointment schedules and keep relevant records updated in real time.
- Verify safety & accuracy of all inbound & outbound loads which includes counting and taking pictures.
- Operate company-owned and leased trucks to place, weigh, and transport trailers.
- Complete trailer inspections in accordance with DOT regulations when hooking up to any dollied trailer.
- Always adhere to yard rules of operation.
TREATING PLANT
- Use Treat Right, Excel, Outlook, and Access to build and complete lumber treating processes.
- Set up, prepare, and oversee wood treatment charges to meet production and quality goals.
- Evaluate and troubleshoot production-impacting issues.
- Monitor maintenance repairs and safety concerns.
- Complete administrative tasks, including daily paperwork using Microsoft Office Applications.
- Notify Operations Manager of delayed work orders.
- Attend weekly Team Lead meetings, conduct monthly trainings, and communicate topics to HR.
- Perform the daily task of treating wood to include loading and unloading of the cylinder, tagging wood, repackaging, and repairing bundles as well as redistributing wood back into the yard to proper location and status.
- Responsible for maintaining cleanliness and organization of the department areas.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Required
- Valid drivers license
- Forklift experience with UTD certification or the ability to demonstrate safe handling of forklifts in an on-site test.
Preferred
- Warehouse and/or manufacturing experience preferred.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
- Ability to lead by example and demonstrate effective team leadership.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and general computer skills.

- Ability to multitask safely in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong communication, customer service, teamwork, attention to detail, and problem-solving skills.
- Knowledge of OSHA, DOT, state/federal regulations, and UWP Operations System.
- Basic math and ability to read a tape measure.
- Product identification, property layout, labeling, photo documentation.
- Familiarity with safety protocols, PPE, and SOPs.
WORK CONDITIONS AND PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

- Prolonged sitting, driving, and forklift operation with vibration.
- Handling wood, which may require standing, climbing, balancing, stooping, crouching, bending, walking, and lifting for prolonged periods.
- Working outside in all conditions, including heat, cold, rain, snow, humidity, fumes, and airborne particles.
- Must be able to lift/carry 60 pounds or more.
