Staff Accountant Organizational OverviewYouth Research, Inc (YRI) assists the New York State Office of Children and Family Services (OCFS) and its' state and local partners in developing, administering, and delivering training and learning opportunities and related activities for the full range of services for which OCFS is responsible, such as child welfare, juvenile justice, childcare, adoption and foster care, youth development, and child and adult protective services.DutiesThe Staff Accountant reports to the Controller and will provide financial, administrative, and clerical support. The Staff Accountant's primary role is to oversee travel reimbursement and travel reconciliation according to the NYS Office of the State Comptroller guidelines. The Staff Accountant will demonstrate knowledge of and adherence to current financial and tax regulations. Collaborate and work closely alongside Senior Accountant to accomplish tasks set forth by Controller and CFO. The Staff Accountant will act as the backup to the Senior Accountant and be cross trained on various tasks to ensure consistency when out on leave. Set up, document, and modify accounting records and systems, including automated records and systems, and record and review accounting entries and supporting documentation. Gather, compile, and prepare financial data from online travel reimbursement system to ensure timely payments are made to trainees. Accurately review, code, and maintain proper expense allocations when processing vendor invoices. Maintain a large number of vendor accounts while staying in compliance with company policies and procedures. Assist in preparation of documents, submission of claims to NYS Office of Children and Family Services, processing of materials, and maintenance of records. Escalate issues to supervisor's attention and propose solutions where applicable. Other duties as assigned. Minimum QualificationsUndergraduate degree from an accredited college or university. Excellent oral and written communication skills. Proficient in MS Office 365 and QuickBooks Online Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to interact effectively, efficiently, and professionally with colleagues and partner agency staff. Preferred QualificationsExperience working for, or frequently interacting with, a non-profit organization or social service organization is a plus. 1-2 years of progressive responsibility of financial preparation and analysis.
