Child Action, Inc. (CAI) is a private, non-profit corporation created in 1976 to promote the education and social welfare of children and families and to advocate on their behalf. Our programs include resource and referral services for families seeking childcare, child care subsidies for qualifying families, recruitment and professional development of the child care workforce, and family education and support.

Position Purpose & Scope:
Under the direct supervision of the Director of Information Technology, the Database Administrator will oversee the design, implementation, and maintenance of the organization's databases to ensure optimal performance, security, and reliability. This role will play a critical part in supporting data-driven decision-making by managing data integrations, optimizing database systems, and supporting reporting tools like Power BI and ArcGIS. Additionally, the DBA will lead efforts to support data migration projects, such as transitions to ADP and Salesforce, ensuring data integrity and accuracy.
Typical Duties:
- Design, install, and configure database systems, ensuring high availability and performance.
- Monitor and optimize database performance, troubleshoot issues, and implement necessary improvements.
- Ensure data security, backups, and disaster recovery processes are in place and regularly tested.
- Collaborate with development teams to design efficient database schemas and support application requirements.
- Manage and maintain data integrations and ETL processes to ensure accurate and timely data flow between systems.
- Support reporting tools like Power BI and ArcGIS by optimizing data queries and providing necessary data structures.
- Lead data migration efforts, including mapping, cleansing, and validating data for external platforms.
- Document database architectures, configurations, and procedures for internal use and compliance purposes.
- Stay updated on the latest database technologies and recommend improvements or upgrades as needed.
- Provide technical support and training to other team members and end users on database-related topics.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements
Education & Experience:
- Bachelor's degree in computer science, Information Systems, or a related field.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in database administration, design, or development.
- Expertise in relational database management systems (RDBMS) such as SQL Server, Oracle, or PostgreSQL.
- Proficiency in writing and optimizing SQL queries.
- Experience with data migration, ETL processes, and integration tools.
- Familiarity with reporting and GIS tools (e.g., SSRS, Power BI, ArcGIS).
- Knowledge of database security best practices and compliance requirements.
Qualifications, Knowledge, Abilities:
- Strong understanding of database design principles and best practices.
- Proven experience in performance tuning and troubleshooting database systems.
- Ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams, including developers, analysts, and stakeholders.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
- Familiarity with cloud database solutions (e.g., Azure SQL, AWS RDS) is a plus.
- Strong organizational and documentation skills.
Physical Factors:
- Primarily a sedentary role with prolonged periods of sitting and working on a computer.
- Occasional lifting of items up to 20 pounds may be required.
- Possess visual capability and digital dexterity to operate a computer and other standard office equipment
- Ability to travel to other office locations or vendor sites as needed.
