Salary : $52,894.40 - $69,950.40 AnnuallyLocation : Waukesha, WIJob Type: Full-timeJob Number: MaintMechI 01222025Department: Public Works DepartmentOpening Date: 01/21/2025Closing Date: Continuous Description Waukesha County's Department of Public Works' Facilities Division is looking for a maintenance mechanic to join its team.The Maintenance Mechanic I performs a variety of maintenance and minor repair work to the interior and exterior of County buildings, assisting our seasoned/experienced Maintenance Mechanics II & III in plumbing, heating, electrical, or carpentry repairs.Work Schedule - the current opening is for 2nd Shift and includes working nights, weekends, overtime, holidays, and at odd hours when emergency situations require such duty: First two (2) weeks: First Shift,7:00 am to 3:30 pm, Monday - Friday.Regular work schedule: Second Shift: 3:00 pm to 11:00 pm, Monday - Friday. Example of Duties Performs a variety of maintenance and minor repair work to the interior and exterior of buildings. Functions as a helper to Maintenance Mechanic II and Maintenance Mechanic III employees, assisting in major plumbing, heating, electrical, or carpentry repairs. Performs repairs to interior and exterior windows, walls, and doors along with the associated frames and hardware.Perform minor drywall plaster, or ceramic tile wall repairs and various flooring and roofing repairs.Performs roof inspections to help identify any roofing issues and prevent building damage.Performs basic preventative maintenance, lubricates, and changes belts on various pieces of mechanical equipment such as motors, generators, compressors, pumps, blowers, exhaust fans, etc.Performs mechanical preventative maintenance, repair, and cleaning work on large heating and cooling systems and related equipment. Cleans and replaces filters for heating and ventilating equipment. Maintains tools and equipment.Performs necessary surface preparation and applies paint, shellac, varnish, enamel, stain or other protectives to various surfaces, using brush, spray, roller, cloth, or other means. Moves heavy furniture or equipment from one location to another. Performs pick-up and delivery duties as directed. Assembles tools and supplies in preparation for work orders; completes work orders for room set-up or break down. Performs other duties as required. Minimum Qualifications Essential Knowledge and AbilitiesWorking knowledge of the tools, equipment, materials, methods, and practices used in building construction, repair, and maintenance work. Working knowledge of the methods, tools, and equipment involved in mechanical equipment maintenance. Working knowledge of occupational hazards and safe work practices. Working knowledge of personal computers, spreadsheets, word processing, and maintenance management systems. Ability to understand and carry out work from oral and written instructions.Ability to move furniture and equipment. Ability to recognize malfunctions in mechanical equipment. Ability to use various tools and equipment to perform intricate building and equipment maintenance and repairs.Ability to work under varying conditions, in dusty, hot, or cold areas. Ability to use personal computers, electronic spreadsheets, word processing, and maintenance management systems. Ability to establish and maintain effective public and working relations.You must meet these minimum Training and Experience requirements:High School diploma or GED.Some paid work experience involving the trades (plumbing, heating, electrical, or carpentry repairs) or general repairs and maintenance to buildings as outlined inthe duties is preferred.Relevant post high school coursework, training, or apprenticeship in building maintenance technology, facilities maintenance, or related field is desirable.Possession of a Valid Driver's License desirable.In addition to the above, candidates must possess the physical and mental abilities to perform the essential job functions as listed in the .
