Research Assistant - Coastal Plant Ecology Lab
Position Responsibilities:
The Coastal Plant Ecology Lab(www.cpel.vcu.edu) seeks a paid part-time (~15-20 hours per week) researchassistant who will work with multiple projects including remote sensing and GISanalysis of coastal upland communities and some barrier island field work. Theywill assist with remote sensing projects that use digital elevation models,aerial photography, and multispectral imagery to assist with projects relatedto short and long-term ecogeomorphology of barrier islands. Prior experienceworking GIS is required. Due to the interdisciplinary nature of this work, thisperson will be integrated into multiple projects at once and needs to be ableto work both independently and collaboratively.
Required Qualifications:
A BS degree in a science/environmental field
Proficient in ArcGIS
Prior experience working in the field
Able to keep in compliance with chemical safety guidelines
Able to work several consecutive hours in the field with variable weather conditions
Must be comfortable riding a boat to field sites
Flexibility and problem-solving skill
Good and consistent communication skills
Preferred Qualifications:
Enthusiasm for science and science communication
Experience with remote sensing projects
Coastal research experience
Prior use of RTK GPS systems
