Job Duties
The successful candidate will be responsible for teaching Introductory Chemistry, Chemistry for Allied Health Students, and General Chemistry. The initial assignment is on the Tulare campus.
Assignments may include evening classes and teaching at any of the Sequoias Community College: Visalia, Hanford and/or Tulare. Participation in the governance of the Sequoias Community College District by way of committee assignments is encouraged.
Other responsibilities include maintenance of office hours, participation in departmental responsibilities, and the willingness to create and participate in and sustain an atmosphere of equity, which is respectful of diversity District wide.
Qualifications
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
The candidate must meet the following criteria:
- Master's in chemistry OR
- Bachelor's in chemistry or biochemistry AND
- Master's in biochemistry, chemical engineering, chemical physics, physics, molecular biology, or geochemistry OR
- The equivalent
JOB REQUIRED CORE SYSTEM COMPETENCY
The candidate must also demonstrate sensitivity to, and understanding of, the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, gender identity, sexual orientation, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students pursuant to Title 5 §53022.

DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS:
The Science Division/Chemistry Department is looking for evidence of the following:
- Teaching or instructional experience (broadly interpreted). May include courses taught at any level, mentoring, teaching assistant or laboratory instruction, development of lectures, laboratory activities, syllabi, or other instructional materials, or coursework related to teaching.
- Experience assessing progress relative to goals and working with a team to implement improvements
- Experience and/or interest in building a chemistry program tailored to the needs of the students in the community, which may include familiarity with the educational needs of students pursuing careers in STEM, health science, and/or agricultural careers.
- Enthusiastic participation in professional responsibilities, community and/or campus service.
- Successful experience working with students from diverse backgrounds by a demonstrated commitment to valuing and promoting diversity, equity, and inclusion, and by use a variety of teaching strategies and assessment methods that encourage retention.
