Role: Certified Paraprofessional

Rate: Up to $20/hr

Primary Function:
Supports students with special needs and disabilities by assisting in instructional activities and daily care, working under the guidance of professional staff.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Student Support:
    • Help students individually or in groups with classwork to reinforce learning and skills.
    • Provide assistance with personal care needs, such as hygiene, essential life functions, mobility, and use of medical devices.
  2. Classroom Assistance:
    • Support teachers in classroom management and preparing instructional materials.
    • Supervise students during lunch, on the playground, on field trips, and in other settings.
    • Assist with behavior support plans and ensure a safe and productive learning environment.
  3. Clerical Tasks:
    • Maintain records, inventories, and assist in creating displays like bulletin boards.
    • Help with grading assignments and tests, and support testing procedures as directed.
  4. Equipment and Materials:
    • Set up and manage audio-visual materials.
    • Ensure students can effectively use assistive devices.
  5. Professional Development:
    • Attend training sessions, in-service programs, and school meetings as requested.
  6. Confidentiality:
    • Maintain the privacy of all student information.
  7. Other Duties:
    • Provide teacher-planned instruction when needed.
    • Supervise the classroom temporarily in the teacher's absence.
    • Support teachers and administrators with student discipline and behavioral observations.

Qualifications:

  • Education:
    • High school diploma or GED required.
    • Must meet one of the following:
      • Completion of at least two years of postsecondary education,
      • An associate degree or higher, or
      • Meet state or district quality assessment standards.
  • Experience:
    • Prior experience with school-aged children preferred.
    • Training in child development or personal care is beneficial.
  • Skills:
    • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
    • Ability to maintain composure while working with students with a wide range of needs.
  • Physical Requirements:
    • Must be capable of lifting up to 15 lbs. regularly and occasionally up to 100 lbs.
    • Frequent standing, sitting, walking, and occasional bending, reaching, or twisting.

Work Environment:

  • Primarily in a climate-controlled setting, with occasional outdoor supervision.
  • May involve assisting students with physical and personal care needs in various educational or community settings.
