Job Overview

We are seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Broadcast Systems Engineer with deep expertise in broadcast systems, live production environments, and IP-based media transport networks. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience with complex broadcast systems integration, maintenance, and troubleshooting, as well as a strong ability to work under pressure in fast-paced, live production environments.

Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including engineering, IT, and operations, to ensure seamless integration and support of broadcast technologies. Manage and maintain broadcast systems, monitor critical infrastructure, and provide technical support for live events and studio productions.

Key Responsibilities

  • System Management & Support:
    • Manage and support complex broadcast systems including long-haul video transmission and IP-based media transport networks.
    • Oversee system upgrades and integrations, working closely with product managers and vendors to ensure new features and upgrades meet client specifications.
    • Provide engineering support for daily operations, troubleshooting system issues, and addressing client concerns.
  • Broadcast Equipment Configuration & Maintenance:
    • Configure, maintain, and troubleshoot broadcast equipment, including production switchers, audio mixers, routing systems, and streaming equipment.
    • Work hands-on with SMPTE 2110 multicast architecture, NMOS system discovery, and IP routing for broadcast environments.
    • Provide daily operational support for studio productions, including setting up production switchers, record/playback systems, multiviewers, and intercom systems.
  • Live Production Support:
    • Serve as a primary point of contact for live production technical support, including providing comms support, MADI/Dante routing, and signal flow management during fast-paced multi-camera, live broadcasts.
    • Act as a key engineering resource for live shows, supporting technical directors, audio mixers, and other production staff.
    • Work closely with vendors, clients, and internal teams to ensure smooth signal flow for live events.
  • System Design & Integration:
    • Participate in the design and architecture of new broadcast systems, including the development of workflows, CAD/Visio drawings, and signal paths.
    • Supervise system integrators and ensure proper installation, testing, and commissioning of broadcast systems and equipment.
    • Develop and document Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for broadcast workflows and system maintenance.
  • Collaboration & Cross-Functional Support:
    • Partner with network engineering and IT departments to address networking issues, concerns, and improvements.
    • Collaborate with production teams to configure and set up equipment for upcoming shows and events.
    • Work closely with vendors and third-party providers to ensure the continued performance of broadcast systems and to implement necessary upgrades.
  • Training & Mentorship:
    • Mentor junior engineers and provide training on new systems and technologies.
    • Stay current with the latest trends in broadcast technology and IP media transport, bringing forward recommendations for process improvements and technology adoption.

Skills & Qualifications

  • Technical Expertise:
    • Extensive hands-on experience with broadcast systems and equipment, including routers, production switchers, intercom systems, audio mixers, studio cameras, and streaming platforms.
    • Proficiency with IP-based broadcast systems (SMPTE 2110)
    • Experience with live production environments, including multi-camera setups and graphic-intensive studio shows.
    • Expertise with transmission systems and familiarity with broadcast automation and playout systems.
    • Advanced knowledge of signal routing, system configuration, and troubleshooting in a live broadcast setting.
  • Problem-Solving Skills:
    • Strong analytical and troubleshooting abilities, particularly in high-pressure live broadcast environments.
    • Ability to quickly diagnose and resolve technical issues to minimize downtime during live broadcasts.
  • Communication & Collaboration:
    • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams, clients, and vendors.
    • Proven ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously while maintaining attention to detail and quality.
  • Education & Certification:
    • Bachelor's degree in Engineering (or related field) or equivalent work experience.
    • Industry Certifications are highly desirable.

Preferred Experience

  • Experience in the broadcast industry, particularly in live production, technical operations centers (TOC), and broadcast engineering.
  • Familiarity with broadcast automation systems such as Wide Orbit, Harmonic, and other playout/file server platforms.
  • Experience working with clients in a studio or remote broadcast environment.
