Entry Level Automation Engineer (Detroit, MI Summer 2025)

DMC's Automation team programs a variety of electromechanical industrial equipment that keeps factory floors running, including controllers, servos, user interfaces, and more. Our strong focus on controls and software engineering helps ensure we provide clients with efficient and modern automation solutions. This role focuses on programming and software solutions. It includes controls programming with food and beverage processing and packaging, automotive assembly lines, and packaging machinery controls

Responsibilities:
Engineer Level I

• Programs applications in accordance with DMC programming standards & best practices to meet & exceed customer requirements
• Commissions solutions at customer sites (travel locally/nationally/internationally when needed), including troubleshooting electrical and mechanical systems
• Communicates with team members and clients
• Works with most industrial PLC/HMI/SCADA platforms (e.g. Siemens, Rockwell, Ignition, etc.)
• Continuously learns (with guidance) pertinent technologies for their projects
• Documents and delivers solutions to clients
• Supports project planning and system architecture design
• Gains knowledge within sales, business development, and project processes

Requirements:
Engineer Level I

• Located in Detroit, MI (or willing to relocate)
• Bachelor of Science in Mechanical, Electrical, or Computer Engineering or related field
• Minimum GPA of 3.4
• Programming; including text-based languages and object-oriented concepts
• Quickly learns new technologies
• Ability to follow patterns & build upon establish models
• Understands complex system designs
• Ability to manage time amongst multiple projects
• Strong written/oral communication and technical writing skills
• Travel to customer manufacturing sites for commissioning solutions, including troubleshooting electrical and mechanical systems. Please note that 25-50% travel is required for this position, but there is the option to travel more for those interested in seeing the world! (Additional benefits are available for those interested in high amounts of travel)

Starting compensation is based on industry, experience, and location.
