The Student Intern in Civil Engineering will help prepare and 3-D model creations and drawings associated with site development and site finishing for general commercial development projects. This position works under the supervision of a licensed civil engineer and will also collaborate with civil designers and other design staff.
Responsibilities
- Reviews rough sketches, drawings, specifications, and other engineering data received from Engineers.
- Plots maps and charts showing profiles and cross-sections, indicating relation of topographical contours and elevations to building and retaining walls.
- Prepares site layout designs and drafts detailed and complex drawings for items such as pads, roads, drainage, and pipelines.
- Prepares site grading and placement of basic erosion and sedimentation control measures.
- Begin learning about governmental regulations, codes and ordinances and applies them to plans, as needed.
- Provide support for a wide variety of small and large site development projects throughout the United States.
- Other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Basic understanding of construction process, design constraints, required deliverables.
- Good understanding and knowledge of civil site requirements.
- Understanding of cross-discipline needs for continuous coordination with other architects and engineers, lead engineer, project management, commercial and procurement on multidiscipline design and construction projects.
- Understanding of drawing coordinate systems, including State Plane Coordinates.
- Ability to utilize and import information from GIS databases.
- Basic to intermediate skills with AutoDesk products such as Auto CAD; Civil 3D; and standard office software such as Microsoft Office suite of tools.
- Experience using Esri ArcGIS desktop software, and third-party applications (Vehicle Tracking, HydroCAD).
- Strong Microsoft Office suite skills.
- Ability to traverse uneven terrain, climb steps or ladder, and tolerate airborne environmental nuisances associated with building construction sites.
- Ability to visually survey, measure and assess project site, site elements, and project while under construction.

Requirements
- In the process of receiving a bachelor's degree in civil engineering from an ABET accredited university.
- Previous civil engineering internships is preferred, but not required.
