Job Purpose
To provide allocated engineering services for the generation of new business ideas, providing capability to develop strategic options into fully sanctioned schemes.
What You'll Do
As a Design Engineer in our Electric Distribution Design Department, you will oversee external Design Consultants deliverables to insure proper STORMS/GIS Material Unit (MU) and Compatible Unit (CU) application for Distribution Line Projects, as well as adherence to National Grid Construction Standards.
Key Accountabilities
- Work with External Design Coordinator with the terms and conditions of a Master Service Agreement (MSA) to provide external design services.
- Develop and administer Project Document scopes for MSA design.
- Provide specific technical support to all external design firms with regard to design related issues.
- Must have specific design and construction knowledge of overhead, underground, URD, DOT, and telecommunications work.
- Act as liaison between National Grid and external design consultants.
- Must have working knowledge of work management applications (Storms/GIS).
- Develop strategic alliances with multiple Design and Construction vendors and support these initiatives by leveraging new technologies, applications, and work practices.
- Work closely with the Distribution Design /Operations Support groups to identify long-term design and construction requirements.
- Represent the External Distribution Design Department at various planning and scheduling meetings both internally and externally.
- Attend Design and Construction bid meetings as required.
- Periodic travel between New England and New York may be required
Qualifications
- Bachelor Degree in Electrical Engineering with a proven ability to exercise good Project Management skills.
- Five years of Transmission and/or Distribution Engineering or Operations experience with particular knowledge of design, procurement, contract, and performance strategies. Proficient in the use of various Project Management software such as MS Project, Primavera, STORMS/GIS, etc. Exhibit sound strategic thinking capabilities and creative problem solving abilities.
- Well developed communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to read, write, and comprehend construction documents and conceptual designs

Salary - $124,000 - $146,000
This position has a career path which provides for advancement opportunities within and across bands as you develop and evolve in the position; gaining experience, expertise and acquiring and applying technical skills.
