About This Role
The Agronomy Department at Kansas State University is looking for a Greenhouse Operations Technician to work at the Throckmorton Hall Plant Science Center Greenhouse Complex in Manhattan, KS. This position is an integral part of the Throckmorton Plant Science Center Greenhouse Complex and as such is responsible for carrying out many of the day-to-day activities including but not limited to: Provide and coordinate maintenance and repair of the Throckmorton Plant Sciences Center greenhouse complex, working with faculty and staff in the departments of Horticulture and Natural Resources, Agronomy, Plant Pathology, and Entomology, and with staff of the USDA. Perform or facilitate the monitoring, adjustment, and repair of electrical and plumbing equipment. Contribute to training of all new users of the greenhouse complex and the soil mixing space.

This position is required to be performed on-site. Work is performed on employer premises or designated assignment location.
What You'll Need to Succeed
Minimum Qualifications:
- Graduation from High School. Five years relevant experience.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Five years experience in greenhouse operations and maintenance.
- Five years relevant experience in commercial, industrial, mechanical, or building trades.
- Skilled electrician, semi-skilled plumber and semiskilled carpenter. Working knowledge of greenhouse environmental conditions and how they affect plant growth, and construction trades including electrical, plumbing and carpentry.
- Must be able to read, write, understand, and communicate in the English language.
- Ability to work with and supervise hourly student employees.
- Familiarity with managing a budget. Excellent organizational skills: ability to prioritize tasks, work under pressure, and manage multiple projects simultaneously in a complex and technical environment.
- Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work well with multiple constituents, including faculty, students, researchers, vendors, and administrative and facilities staff in a highly diverse university research/teaching/service community.
- General knowledge of word processing, spreadsheet and communication software.
