About the Role

Infrastructure Engineering Inc.'s (IEI) New York Office seeks a Senior Bridge Engineer / Structural Engineer to lead the restoration of the iconic George Washington Bridge. As the Senior Bridge/Structural Engineer, you will lead the structural design team, contribute to the growth and development of an expanding department, and serve as the primary contact with clients on bridge/structural projects. Project work will focus primarily on bridges, culverts, retaining walls, and other transportation project-related structures for public agencies, including PANYNJ, MTA, NYCDOT, and NYCDDC. Essential Duties/Functions and Responsibilities

  • Conduct bridge inspections and prepare Bridge Condition Reports.
  • Coordinates with firm leaders to plan and secure the required technical and tangible resources for project delivery.
  • Lead the preparation of design computations, plans, specifications, and quantity and cost estimates.
  • Monitors clients' project delivery goals and proactively identifies issues and obstacles that may compromise or influence achieving such goals.
  • Monitors project delivery in relation to the contracted scope and fees. Promptly identifies client-requested out-of-scope services and works diligently with the client to secure additional compensation or limit efforts to the contracted scope of work while ensuring the client is aware of the limits of negotiated scope.
  • Negotiate client contracts and develop scope, fees, and schedule.
  • Provide constructability reviews and value engineering reviews.
  • Responsible for the technical accuracy, competency of structural projects, and organization of project documents and files.
  • Schedules internal and external project progress meetings with all disciplines and personnel to monitor project progress.
  • Signs and seals assigned project documents.
  • Use various software and programs for structural analysis, design, and plan preparation.

  • Minimum 8 years of experience in structural engineering is required.
  • Minimum 6 years of specialized Bridge work experience is required.
  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering with an emphasis on structural engineering is required.
  • Master's degree in Civil / Structural Engineering preferred.
  • Active PE license in the State of New York or New Jersey.
  • Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills.
  • Fundamental knowledge of structural engineering.
  • Physical skills of endurance, balance, coordination, agility, and stamina.
  • Proven leadership skills with engineering staff and organizations.
  • Strong team player in a multi-disciplinary environment who can work on and contribute to several projects simultaneously.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills are required.

Physical Demands

The employee is required to sit, talk, hear, write, type, read, and manipulate computers and/or tablets along with other mobile devices and equipment. The employee may lift and/or move up to 20 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 30 pounds.

Work Conditions

  • IEI will provide a company vehicle for fieldwork with acceptable driver's record.
  • Must be physically capable of walking and moving about on the construction sites, have good hand-eye coordination, and occasionally lift/move up to 50 pounds.
  • Occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions or in-progress construction hazards: fumes, toxic chemicals, risk of electric shock, and vibration. Often works around dust, asphalt, and concrete.
  • Sometimes needs to put in extra hours, including weekends, to keep up with intense construction work at times and deal with unexpected situations and accidents.
  • Spends some time working indoors to review blueprints and write reports.
  • Usually works a standard 40-hour workweek either daytime or nighttime.
  • Usually works in outside weather conditions.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee may Frequently work outdoors in various weather conditions, possibly for an extended period of time, depending on the assignment type. The noise level in the office work environment is usually moderate. The noise level on the construction site is often loud and may require hearing protection.

Pay Range: $140,000 - $220,000 per year
