Associate Dean of Nursing - Associate Professor/Professor
Barry University's School of Nursing (SON) is seeking a dynamic and innovative nurse leader to join its team as Associate Dean of Academic Affairs. SON is home to nationally recognized undergraduate (BSN), graduate (MSN), and doctoral (DNP and PhD) programs. Salary and rank are commensurate with qualifications.

Reporting to the dean of the School of Nursing, the Senior Associate Dean will provide academic leadership, oversight, and direction across the BSN, MSN, DNP, and PhD in Nursing programs. This position will assist the dean in building, maintaining, and sustaining a collaborative and inclusive working environment with the SON's leadership team and foster a diverse community of faculty and students as the school positions itself for continued growth and expansion.
The position will oversee new program development, processes involved in internal curricula policy review and approval, activities of multiple external accreditation agencies, and advance the SON simulation program. This combined faculty and administrative position is essential to the SON Executive Leadership Team and the College of Health and Wellness (CHW).
This is a combined faculty/administrative position and is an essential leadership position within the School of Nursing. Teaching responsibilities will be given per term.
- Collaborate with the SON dean, program directors, and Barry University (BU) community members to implement the SON strategic plan, mission, goals, and outcomes. Perform ongoing enviro-scanning to assist in developing the SON strategic initiatives.
- Serve as an advisor to the dean on student success initiatives and academic and accreditation trends in nursing.
- In collaboration with the program directors and clinical partners, oversee the exploration, development, approval, implementation, and evaluation of innovative entry-to-practice and advanced practice programs that meet the needs of next-gen students and the external community.
- Assist in developing educational partnerships and interprofessional collaboratives that support increased student recruitment, retention, and graduation. Evaluate the linkages between and among SON academic degree programs for their impact on one another and the total academic portfolio. Consider the impact on university-wide academic programming, anticipating challenges and proposing solutions.
- Oversee the strategic operations of the SON simulation program. Support faculty and simulation staff in advancing simulated experiential learning opportunities, new pedagogies, emerging technologies, and space needs. Further interprofessional and clinical partner collaboration through simulation.
- At the direction of the SON Dean, coordinate the completion and submission of required internal (CHW Curriculum and Policy Committees, Academic Undergraduate and Graduate Councils, and Academic Affairs Committee) and external (SACSCOC, CCNE, AACN, NLN, BON, FACN, and FCN) reports.
- Monitor regulations and standards governing professional nursing education to ensure compliance.
- Assist the SON Dean and CHW Director of Business Operations in annual budget preparation, continuous variance monitoring, and expense management. Collaborates with program directors to recommend annual enrollment targets for the academic programs.
- Assist in developing educational partnerships and interprofessional collaboratives that support increased student recruitment, retention, and graduation. Oversee the management of clinical partnerships, including student placements, onboarding, and interfacing with the Office of Legal Affairs for affiliation agreements.
- Assist the Dean of Students and Program Directors with resolving student complaints and grievances before an appeal to the Dean.
- Performs other duties as assigned by the Dean.
Qualifications/Requirements
- Earned doctorate in nursing or a related field from a regionally accredited institution
- Unrestricted and unencumbered current Florida R.N. license or eligibility
- Record of teaching, scholarship, and service commensurate with an associate professor or professor appointment
- Progressive and relevant academic nursing leadership experience in an accredited program within an institution of higher education.
- Evidence of strong interpersonal, organizational, business, and conflict resolution skills and the ability to effectively interact with students, faculty, staff, and external stakeholders from all levels.
- Demonstrated commitment to discovering truth and knowledge, inclusive community, collaborative service, and social justice.
