**Starting Salary: $84,972**

**This position is open to the public and all current City employees covered under the Citys collective bargaining agreement with AMERICAN FEDERATION OF STATE, COUNTY, AND MUNICIPAL EMPLOYEES (AFSCME) BARGAINING UNIT 1, 3, 4 & 5. Only employees in City job titles in this bargaining unit are eligible to bid.**

**ESSENTIAL DUTIES**

Under supervision of the Director of Adult Services, this administrative position serves as the managing librarian of the Adult Learning and Economic Advancement Unit (LEA). Supervises and collaborates with LEA staff. Manages multiple projects. Establishes and maintains beneficial partnerships. Identifies new programmatic needs and finds opportunities. Develops, leads, and manages formal and informal learning programs, resources and services for adult patrons. Assists leadership in articulating the librarys vision for success in serving the varied and changing educational needs of adult patrons and in executing strategies to ensure CPL provides those patrons with responsive 21st century library services. Thoughtfully plans and oversees training for Adult Services librarians across the system. Supports public service staff with clear and timely communication and helpful resources, for both staff learning and patron use. Supports a collaborative and peer-focused learning environment for both admin and public service staff. Creates comprehensive service plans and strategic initiatives to enhance and expand adult learning opportunities system wide. Builds and maintains effective and stable programmatic partnerships and referral networks with other city departments, educational organizations, and citywide civic and nonprofit organizations. Management of programs and partnerships and resources to: provide adults with English Language Learning, Adult Basic Education and High School Equivalency services; advance digital equity in Chicago; provide adults with digital literacy learning opportunities. Assess and standardize services plans for job-seeking patrons and patrons seeking career development. Bring best library/workforce development practices to the system. Manage multiple resources and webpages. Develop and oversee the implementation of subject related outreach, includes public speaking and professional representation of CPL as an institution. Assists in preparing grant requests and contracts as needed. Oversees major grant funded initiatives, including but not limited to the CyberNavigator program, ensuring the librarys full compliance with all aspects of grants including service goals, procurement and budgetary requirements.

**LOCATION: 400 S. State St**

**DAYS OFF: Two days off per week**

**SHIFT: Monday-Friday, 9:00 am 5:00 pm. May be required to work some evenings**

**HOURS: 37.5 hours per week to be scheduled during normal unit hours**

**THIS POSITION IS IN THE CAREER SERVICE**

**Qualifications:**

**MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS**

Graduation from an accredited American Library Association college or university with a masters degree in library science or an approved foreign credential evaluation, plus three years of professional library experience, of which one year is in a supervisory role related to the responsibilities of the position.

**SELECTION REQUIREMENTS**

This position requires applicants to complete an interview which will include a written exercise and/or a skills assessment test as part of the interview. The interviewed candidate(s) possessing the qualifications best suited to fulfill the responsibilities of the position, based on the oral and written parts of the interview will be selected.

**Preference will be given to candidates possessing the following:**

Knowledge of issues affecting adult learner and jobseekers

Knowledge of best practices in digital literacy and an applied knowledge of digital equity

Project Management experience

Proficiency with MS Office, SharePoint and Teams

Experience talking to and instructing crowds, including virtual environments

Adult education program experience
