Description of Work Unit

The Department of Languages, Literatures and Cultures is comprised of teachers and scholars of language, linguistics, literature and culture including specialists of second language acquisition, poetry, theater, cinema, and translation. Faculty represent over twenty different countries of origin. This work unit exists to educate, counsel, and support the undergraduate and graduate students in the department, maintain their records, and support the teaching, research and creative activity, and service of its faculty.

Position Summary

When a position becomes available, the Department of Languages, Literatures & Cultures hires adjunct faculty from this applicant pool. Such faculty may be hired for the fall, spring, and/or summer term in a given academic year. They are hired to teach courses in language acquisition, linguistics, literature and culture in one or more of the following languages:

+ American Sign Language, Arabic, Chinese, Hebrew, French, German, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Latin, Russian, and Spanish.

Applicants are added to the pool list throughout the calendar year. Hiring decisions are typically made during the late spring and early summer for fall semester, during the early fall semester for spring and during the spring semester for the summer term.

Required Job Qualifications

Requirements for these positions are:

+ M.A.

+ Experience teaching a specific subject area and demonstrated teaching excellence;

+ Advanced proficiency in the target language and proficiency in English;

+ Experience teaching the language or literature.

Preferred Job Qualifications

Preferred job qualifications for these positions are:

+ Ph.D.

+ Willingness to work together with LLC faculty as a team on curriculum building, assessment, student outreach and recruitment;

+ Experience/expertise in curriculum development;

+ Experience/expertise in assessment;

+ Commitment to diversity and inclusion through teaching and outreach.
