Position Summary: Under the direction of the Nurse Manager, supervises, orients, educates, counsels and supports the nursing staff, in collaboration with the Nurse Managers and Staff Education and Development Coordinator. Will start in Telemetry and eventually be responsible for all nursing areas in the hospital. Represents administration in the overall management of the hospital, in the absence of nursing administration and managers. Participates as a member of the Nursing Management team . Location: 680 Centre Street, Brockton, MA Department: Nursing This is a part-time position Responsibilities: + Participates in executing strategic initiates of the nursing division, on a unit level, as defined by the Nurse Manager and on a departmental level as defined by the Chief Nursing Officer. + Acts as administrative and clinical resource to nursing staff on assigned shift, and refers issues back to other members of the Nursing Management team as appropriate. + Supports and interprets hospital-wide and nursing –specific policies, procedures, standards, and goals. + Serves as an administrative resource to other department personnel, and refers problems back to the appropriate department director or manager. + Collaborates with the nurse managers in developing staff to enhance their professional and educational growth and to assist in the follow-up staff or unit – specific issues or concerns. + Problem-solves and takes action independently in the absence of other members of the management team. + Participates in hiring and firing decisions and in the disciplinary process. + Provides input to the nurse managers for performance reviews and independently completes nursing staff performance reviews, on assigned float staff. + Confers with on-call hospital and/or nursing administrator, as needed. + Manages results of customer satisfaction surveys and consistently makes an effort to increase customer satisfaction. + Initiates the investigation of patient, family, physician or staff complaints and directs the complaint to the appropriate department director or manager for follow-up. + Participates in Lean activities and problem sheet development. + Initiates the investigation of medication errors and incidents, utilizing lean methodology and directs the staff to the appropriate department director or manager. + Immediately reports major incidents to the hospital and administrator-on-call. + Assists the charge nurse in problem-solving, priority-setting, and staff reallocation, as necessary. + Follows guidelines set forth by nursing administration for the allocation of staff based on census levels, in assessing staffing needs on assigned shift. + Adjusts staffing levels based on clinical judgment, as appropriate. + Liaisons with the admitting clerk in assigning admissions to the appropriate nursing unit, based on patient condition, census allocation, staffing plans, patient acuity, MD orders and primary nursing principles. + Assures a safe environment for patients, families, visitors and staff. Assesses the need for and approves all overtime of staff, on assigned shift. + Participates in hospital-wide and nursing department committees, task forces and groups. + Responds to all emergency situations within the hospital, including all emergency code pages and rapid responses during assigned shift. + Invokes the Disaster Plan in collaboration with the ED charge physician and the hospital administrator-on-call when indicated. + Provides department wide and/or unit-specific education in support of strategic initiatives and/or based on identified need. + Assist in the coordinating Basic Life Support and Advanced Life Support courses. + Schedules appropriate clinical experience during orientation according to the individuals and/or unit’s needs. + Participates in credentialing processes for the nursing staff. + Provides clinical supervision and evaluates each nursing orientee to ensure safe medication administration and re-supervises as necessary. + Maintains records of orientation and performance. + Participates in preparing content and objectives for educational offerings to be submitted to the appropriate review board as part of the application process for contact hours for nurses. + Participates in providing education for members of the community. + Serves as a resource and role model for associates. Promotes new concepts and trends in nursing. + Relates effectively with other members of management teams. + Promotes new concepts and trends in nursing. + Presents content for POA classes for all new employees in this role. + Provides supervision of associates on assigned shift. + Provides direct oversight for float pool staff including RN, CCA, POA and MA staff. + Coordinator is responsible for hiring, supervising, orientation, scheduling, counseling, education and evaluation of assigned clinical staff. + Demonstrates respect and regard for the dignity of all patients, families, visitors, and fellow employees to ensure a professional, responsible, and courteous environment. 1. Education/Experience/Licenses/Technical/Other: Education: High school diploma or equivalent required. B.S. in nursing required; M.S. in nursing or related field preferred. II. Experience (Type & Length): 3 - 5 years Telemetry experience required. Supervisory (Charge Nurse) experience required. Demonstrated ability in leadership skills, clinical skills, communication skills and professional creativity. Experience in teaching and/or supervision required. III. Certification/Licensure: Must be licensed to practice professional nursing in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. Current ACLS is required. PALS, NRP, and TNCC recommended. IV. Software/Hardware: V.
