Description
This job posting is for approved Student Assistants who are interested in working at the Chemistry Department for the 2024-2025 academic year.
Essential Functions and Duties
- Grading papers
- Setting up and taking down the chemicals/equipment/handouts needed for classes
- Cleaning and storing of equipment
- Inventorying of chemicals and equipment
- Preparing chemical mixtures
- Helping in the recovery of waste chemicals for disposal
- Documenting amounts and types of waste recovered
- Testing out experiments/checking accuracy of standards
- Temporarily watching students in the event that a professor needs to step out of the lab
- Answering the telephone in the lab coordinator's absence
Competencies
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Must have a working knowledge of chemistry fundamentals
- Knowledge and skill to operate a personal computer
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel
- Must be able to work independently, respect confidentiality and maintain professionalism in working with students, faculty, staff and visitors
Qualifications
- Students must be registered for undergraduate classes and maintain enrollment status to work in these positions. Students may qualify for Federal Work Study, which will be determined by the Office of Financial Aid.
Additional Job Specific Requirements
- Students are allowed to work a maximum of eighteen (18) hours per week and cannot work in multiple hourly positions. A work week is Sunday-Saturday.
