Statement of Primary Purpose
In support of Isothermal Community College, the Director of Facilities and Capital Projects directs and administers project management related to construction, renovation, and upkeep of structures, facilities, grounds and/or systems. The director is responsible for the physical condition of buildings, grounds, and equipment, short- and long-term planning and managing resources to maintain the College’s facilities.

Essential Responsibilities
Plans and directs the maintenance of the College’s facilities and grounds.
Oversees all capital projects, including new construction projects and/or renovation projects.
Evaluates project specifications to determine appropriate construction methods.
Initiates the preparation of plans and specifications required for competitive bidding of construction, renovation, and/or repair projects necessary to the operation and support of the College.
Inspects and reviews projects to monitor compliance with building and safety codes and other regulations.
Serves as a liaison with architects, construction managers, other construction personnel, State Construction Office, county agencies, and the administration to ensure that projects are completed on time and within budget.
Manages departmental budget and makes recommendations to administration for facility needs.
Directs the purchase of materials, equipment, parts, contracted services, and other services related to facilities management.
Ensures facilities are secure across campuses.
Monitors activities performed by personnel to ensure a smooth flow of operations and ensure compliance with all college policies and procedures.
Selects and contracts with external contractors as needed.
Ensures employees within the department receive required training.
Collaborates with external agencies such as Fire Marshall, Dam Inspector, and Duke Power Engineer.
Coordinates and prepares Facilities Utilization Report.
Designated as Occupational Safety Co-Coordinator.
Ensures the established safety and security policies, procedures and plans are updated, implemented and maintained.
Designs and facilitates annual safety training.
Coordinates safety inspections to identify problems and works with appropriate personnel in taking corrective or preventative measures.
Ensures OSHA records are maintained.
Investigates workplace accidents as well as student or patron accidents, as needed.
Establishes and maintains effective working relationships with administrators, contractors, and staff.
Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in construction management, engineering, or related field or equivalent work experience, required.
Expertise in capital projects, construction technology, and budget management, required.
Knowledge of facilities-related local, state, and federal code and regulations, required.
A minimum of five years of experience in construction management, required.
Preferred
Specific experience working with community colleges, preferred.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $85,000.00 - $100,000.00 per year
