Minimum Qualifications:

Specific License or Certification Required: Must possess and maintain a valid Georgia driver's license (as required by position assignment); State of Georgia Certification as a Water Distribution System Operator(is preferred).
Specific Knowledge, Skills, or Abilities: Must be able to demonstrate proficiency in performance of the essential functions and learn, comprehend, and apply all county or departmental policies, practices, and procedures necessary to function effectively in the position.

Purpose of Classification:
The purpose of this classification is to perform operational duties related to investigating, diagnosing, and repairing problems related to water system infrastructure, including surveying water locations, investigating complaints of possible leaks, flushing water mains, and collecting water samples. Water System Technician is distinguished from Water System Construction Supervisor in that the former installs, surveys, and repairs water mains; whereas the latter supervises assigned staff in addition to installing, surveying, and repairing water mains, water meters, and fire hydrants.
Essential Functions:
The following duties are normal for this position. The omission of specific statements of the duties does not exclude them from the classification if the work is similar, related, or a logical assignment for this classification. Other duties may be required and assigned.
Surveys water main locations and depths.
Investigates complaints of possible leaks and repairs discovered leaks.
Determines when water mains should be flushed.
Flushes water mains and checks chlorine content.
Repairs water main breaks and fire hydrants.
Sterilizes water sample test sites and collects water samples.
Installs water meters, tests meters for accuracy, and repairs malfunctioning meters and connections.
Coordinates repairs with homeowners, builders, and developers.
Consults with customers concerning leaks and advises customers on cutting off water and regulating pressure.
Maintains vehicles, tools, and equipment and inventory, meter location, and repair records.
Additional Functions:
