About the Role:
The Senior Manufacturing Engineer is responsible for providing technical support to Production, assisting customers with DFM, launching new products into production, and identifying/implementing process improvements within the Wheeling, IL facility. Markets served are primarily medical device (with a focus on robotic surgery), therefore experience within an ISO13485 facility is desirable. Manufacturing processes include Swiss screw, high-speed 5-axis, vertical milling, assembly, packaging, passivation, and cleaning.
Responsibilities:
Production Support:
Support Production with machine setups, troubleshooting, operator training, and other functions.
Identify, implement, and document process improvements including cycle time, tool life, process capability, and automation.
Select, qualify, and launch new equipment in the factory.
Support Engineering with part updates, machine layouts, and programs, as well as other functions.
Customer Interface & Design for Manufacturing (DFM):
Collaborate with customers to identify and suggest modifications to customer specifications to improve cost, quality, and/or lead time.
Communicate design changes and updates to the relevant internal teams.
Troubleshoot and resolve production issues, working closely with manufacturing teams to implement corrective actions.
New Part Introduction (NPI):
Work with the quoting team to assign accurate costs to new parts based on materials, labor, and production complexity. Provide technical input to support accurate and competitive pricing for new products.
Generate prints, tool layouts, and programs on newly awarded business. Develop and document detailed routing steps for new parts to guide production teams.
Monitor and measure the performance of new parts in production, gathering data on quality, efficiency, and output.
Train manufacturing functions on the specifics of new parts, including setup, operation, and quality control procedures. Create and maintain training materials.

Requirements / Skills:
7+ years of mechanical experience in a manufacturing environment.
Ability to read and understand part prints.
Ability to design processes, operate, and set up CNC Machines (Swiss, Vertical Milling, 5-axis).
Ability to generate drawings with CAD software; Solidworks is a plus.
Ability to use CAD/CAM software.
Ability to work in a manufacturing environment.
Driven attitude for problem solving and continuous improvement.
Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field is desired. However, experience as an Engineer in a machining environment may be substituted for a degree.
